Saturday Night Live is going to have a one-of-a-kind episode in January 2025. An episode of Saturday Night Live this month will feature actor Timothee Chalamet as both the host and the musical guest. Chalamet is riding a wave of success after his headlining appearance in Dune and the recently Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
Saturday Night Live has had a long tradition of inviting notable personalities from the entertainment industry as the hosts for the evening. The late night show currently led by Lorne Michaels has been successfully running for almost half a century. In these five decades, it has seen many hosts come and go, with some often returning for second or third appearances.
However, of all the people that have had the privilege of hosting Saturday Night Live, only 41 have had the distinction of being called to don both the hats of the host and the musical guest. This list includes Britney Spears, Elton John and Paul Simon. Timothee Chalamet now gears up to be included in this rare list. Here's everything we know.
What's the latest buzz around Timothee Chalamet's appearance on Saturday Night Live?
The official X profile of Saturday Night Live recently announced Timothee Chalamet appears as the host and the musical talent on the episode that's scheduled to air on January 25, 2025. The Hollywood Reporter carried a coverage that stated this would mark a departure from the otherwise long-held Saturday Night Live tradition of pairing a host along with a musical guest.
Timothee Chalamet's career at this point is at an all time high. The actor's break-out role was in the 2014 film, Call Me By Your Name. He followed it up with his successful starring role in the Dune films. Most recently, Chalamet's portrayal of Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown has earned him rave reviews. This might just be accentuated by his upcoming appearance on the late night show.
Although Timothee Chalamet isn't a professional singer, he has sung quite a few Bob Dylan covers in the biopic film. It can be speculated that he might perform one of the tracks on the upcoming episode. Chalamet seems to be favourably poised for an Oscar nomination with his A Complete Unknown act, and his appearance on the show might just lead to an successful aligning of the stars.
Timothee Chalamet opens up about A Complete Unknown
Timothee Chalamet, alongside director James Mangold, spoke at length with The Hollywood Reporter about portraying Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. Asked whether he knew how to play the guitar before the film, Chalamet stated:
"There’s one scene in Call Me by Your Name where I’m fingerpicking. I learned to fingerpick from a heavy metal Italian player. But I had five years to learn guitar for A Complete Unknown. Jim found a great guitar teacher named Larry Saltzman, who has worked with other actors like Meryl Streep on Ricki and the Flash. He’s a huge Bob fan."
On his preparation for the film, Chalamet added:
"It’s the furthest I’ve stretched myself. And it became so biblical to me in terms of this man’s life and his work that I felt if I let my focus err for a second, that I’d be self-loathing about it for years to come. I had three months to play Bob Dylan and the rest of my life I don’t get to be about that, so why not give it my all?"
The Saturday Night Live episode featuring Timothee Chalamet shall air on January 25.
