Amandla Stenberg, who played the dual role of twins Osha and Mae in Star Wars: The Acolyte, opened up about her first experience in the Star Wars Celebration event. Stenberg attended the Star Wars Celebration 2023 studio panel that was held in Excel, London.

In an interview with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she revealed how she was welcomed in the 2023 studio panel of Star Wars Celebration.

"They took me behind some doors and then it was like these mechanized doors open and there was smoke and a catwalk and droids all around the stage and there were thousands of people with lightsabers and I did not see that one coming. It was so much fun."

For the Star Wars Celebration event, Amandla Stenberg paid homage to Natalie Portman's character Padmé Amidala. She wore Padmé's iconic chalk-white catsuit outfit with a gunmetal belt, matching boots, and a rugged shawl from Attack of the Clones (2002). In the same interview, as Fallon praised her for showing up as Padmé and asked her to share her experience, Stenberg said,

"Padme, that was my favorite. It was so much fun."

Amandla Stenberg also shared a hilarious encounter with the Star Wars furries after the event was over. She revealed when she went back to her hotel from the event, she wore her bunny hat and joined a bunch of 50 furriers dancing in a nearby park. She said,

"They welcomed me with open arms. They were like, Oh Come in, and moving their little paws and then I started dancing with them. I was just having a time of my time. It didn't occur to me that I was like Oh, they think that I too am a furry."

Created by Leslye Headland, Star Wars: The Acolyte premiered on June 4, 2024, on Disney+. Based on the Star Wars franchise, the show delves deep into the High-Republican era around 100 years before the events of Star Wars and follows a Jedi Master, Sol, investigating a spree of crimes. Apart from Stenberg, the cast includes Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol, Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh, Manny Jacinto as Qimir, and Dafne Keen as Jacki Lon, to name a few.

However Star Wars: The Acolyte was canceled after one season due to poor ratings, high production costs, and low viewership.

Amandla Stenberg on the cancellation of Star Wars: The Acolyte

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Amandla Stenberg revealed it was not surprising that Star Wars: The Acolyte was canceled after its debut season. She revealed it was mostly due to unnecessary backlash in the form of hate speech and foul language that the cast faced. She told The Hollywood Reporter,

"I'm going to be transparent and say that it's not a huge shock for me. Of course, I live in the bubble of my reality but for those who aren't aware there has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced- when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it."

She said how the internet trolled the cast even before the show was released; she termed the backlash as a product of 'hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, and hatred.' Stenberg revealed the trolls and hard times she faced as a Black woman working in the Star Wars franchise.

Amandla Stenberg shared a diss track, 'Discourse,' about her trolls on her Instagram. She captioned it as,

"Happy Juneteenth and to those who are flooding me with intolerable racism-since it took 72 hours on my laptop to make this song and video, u got 72 hours to respond, and I expect choreo!!"
