What happens in This Is the Zodiac Speaking docuseries?
The first part of the true-crime docuseries starts with recordings and pictures from October 1966, as everyone was excited for Halloween and unaware of what was coming next.
As mentioned above, This Is the Zodiac Speaking dives deep into how Arthur Leigh Allen ended up as a major suspect in the controversial zodiac killer case in America.
Viewers are introduced to the Seawater family who knew Allen from a young age. The first part titled We Called Him Mr. Allen opens with David Sewater talking about Allen, whom they called Mr. Allen as he was incredibly nice to them. Seawater revealed how Mr Allen would take them to enjoy weekends and road trips.
However, little did they know Mr. Allen had another side which was soon going to be exposed when his writings and actions matched with a Zodiac killer. The killer used to leave signs and symbols like a "Z" in threatening letters that talked about his targets.
As the docuseries continues, David Sewater and others including the victims and survivors share more about their experiences. Seawater even claimed to have previously visited the murder sites as Mr. Allen often took them on small trips. He said:
"We realized we had been to all the murder sites before the murders."
The Seawater siblings gradually started suspecting Mr. Allen, but until then he had already made a good image in front of their mother. Despite that, David Sewater called his mother and informed her about Allen's violent acts, but she didn't believe him at first and instead asked him to call Mr. Allen.
As seen in This Is the Zodiac Speaking, David Sewater called Mr. Allen who confessed to drugging them at a young age and even molesting Seawater's sister. David Seawater asked Mr. Allen if he was the Zodiac killer, to which he replied after a deathly silence "Yes, it was me," leaving Seawater with no words but restlessness and rage.
The docuseries also features other key figures connected to the Zodiac killer case, including investigators and reporters from the time when the serial killer made headlines. To this date, no concrete evidence could prove that Arthur Leigh Allen was the zodiac, but the murders stopping soon after his arrest hints at his involvement.
