This Is Not Hollywood is an Italian true crime drama miniseries. The Italian series is based on the 2010 murder of Sarah Scazzi which was widely covered by the media. This Is Not Hollywood is inspired by the book, Sarah: La ragaa di Avetrana authored by Carmine Gazzanni and Flavia Piccinni.
This Is Not Hollywood consists of four parts. Each 60-minute episode portrays the events of Sarah Scazzi's death from the perspective of Sarah, Sabrina (Sarah's cousin), Michele (Sarah's uncle), and Cosima (Sarah's aunt).
The true crime drama series was released in Italy on October 30, 2024, and went on to become the biggest General Entertainment launch on Disney+ within the first week of its release.
Directed by Pippo Mezzapesa, the screenplay of This Is Not Hollywood is written by Mezzapesa along with Antonella W. Gaeta, David Serino, Flavia Piccinni, and Carmine Gazzanni.

This Is Not Hollywood is all set to release on Hulu and Disney+ on December 11, 2024. Previously, the Italian series was shown at the 19th Rome Film Festival on October 16, 2024. The release of the series was delayed in Italy as the mayor of Avetrana took Disney to court to get them to remove the town's name from the title of the series.

According to the official synopsis, the miniseries revolves around the events leading to and after the death of Sarah Scazzi. The official synopsis states,
"On August 26, 2010, in Avetrana, a small town on the edge of the holiday destination Salento, a young girl leaves home never to return. Her name is Sarah Scazzi, she is 15. The whole town is in turmoil, especially her cousin Sabrina, a beautician who is waiting for her in her house in Via Deledda to go to the beach later that afternoon. But while everyone is looking for her, Sarah has disappeared into the void, buried at the bottom of a well where she will be found 42 days after her disappearance, in what will become a real life horror show with intimate secrets and unspoken grudges."

What happened to the real Sarah Scazzi?
Sarah Scazzi was a 15-year-old girl who lived in the small town of Avetrana, Italy located in Southern Italy. The teenager went missing on August 26, 2010. Sarah Scazzi's disappearance led to a widespread search and appeals on television to gather information about her whereabouts.
The first discovery in the investigation was when Sarah's uncle Michele Misseri came forward claiming to have found her cell phone. He soon confessed that he killed the young girl in his garage.
Later on, his confession was retracted as he accused his daughter of the crime. Days after she went missing, Sarah Scazzi's body was found in a well. It was later revealed the young girl had been strangled.
In 2017, the Italian Supreme Court sentenced Sarah Scazzi's aunt and cousin, Cosima Serrano, and Sabrina Misseri to life imprisonment. Michele Misseri was convinced of hiding the body and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
