Ryan Murphy's upcoming procedural, 9-1-1: Nashville, has added another actress to its cast, a Grey's Anatomy alum.
A spin-off of the hit ABC series 9-1-1 was announced in February as part of the network's 2025-26 release. The show, co-created by Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear, will be based on the lives of the titular city's first responders.
According to the latest news, Grey's Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw has been cast for the spin-off. She is the second actress to be cast after Chris O’Donnell, who will play a leading character.
Capshaw is best known for playing Dr. Arizona Robbins for nine seasons on ABC's medical drama. Her other appearances include Odd Man Out, The Practice, Tell Me Lies, and more.

Jessica Capshaw will star opposite Chris O’Donnell in 9-1-1: Nashville
According to an exclusive report by Deadline, after NCIS: Los Angeles star Chris O'Donnell, Grey's Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw is confirmed to star in ABC's 9-1-1 spin-off series 9-1-1: Nashville.
She will play the role of O'Donnell's Captain Don Sharpe's wife. The couple will also have a son named Ryan, who will also be a lead character in the spin-off series. However, the makers have yet to cast an actor for the role.
According to Deadline, Captain Sharpe's character will be:
''...a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man, but he has his secrets.''
While Peter Krause's Bobby Nash and Angela Bassett's Athena Grant's relationship is one of the most wholesome aspects of the parent series, it will be interesting to see how 9-1-1: Nashville tackles the relationship between Captain Sharpe and his wife.
However, Capshaw's casting suggests that the spin-off series will likely follow in its predecessor's footsteps, focusing as much on the first responders' personal lives as on their professional ones.
Latest news on ABC's 9-1-1 universe
After 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star, Murphy is all set to expand the procedural universe with 9-1-1: Nashville, which will reportedly hit the network in the latter half of the year. It was announced as a straight-to-series by ABC in February 2025.
9-1-1: Nashville is executive produced by the procedural's co-creators along with Brad Falchuk and Bassett, who also executive produced Lone Star. It will be interesting to see how well the show fares on the network amidst many other new shows.
While Lone Star was cancelled in 2023 after a successful run of five seasons, the parent series is well into its eighth Season. The network also revived it for Season 9.
Speaking of the parent series, 9-1-1 Season 8 is moving forward with its story, with Eddie finally taking a step for Christopher by bringing his son to live with him. The parent show is currently airing its two-part thrilling event, which sees all 118 trapped inside a lab with a dangerous virus.
Part 1 saw Chimney exposed to some of the virus, and his fate hung in the air. Part 2 will air on ABC on April 17, 2025, concluding the two-part event.
