We now have the preview for The Last of Us Season 2's fourth untitled episode. It will be accessible globally on Max from Sunday, May 4, 2025. One of the exciting things that the preview for The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 featured was the introduction to a new character never seen before in the show, actor Jeffrey Wright's Isaac Dixon.
Dixon was previously hinted at by Abby in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2, in which Abby, after shooting Joel's leg, mentions that the leader of the Washington Liberation Front, or WLF, has a rule of not hurting the defenseless. However, don't let this description fool you into thinking that Isaac Dixon is a heroic figure. Not much is known about his past except for being a part of the Marine Corps before the outbreak.
After the outbreak, he used his experience as a soldier to fight and train others to fight FEDRA's control of Seattle. He will be played by Jeffrey Wright, who also provided the motion-capture for Isaac in the game. Furthermore, Wright went on to speak about his connection with the game in an interview with TV Insider:
“My son was a fan of the game and I met Neil Druckmann who’s the creator. He asked me if I wanted to be a part of the game. One of the writers from Westworld is a writer for the game and also for the series, Halley [Wegryn Gross]. And so, I asked my son, ‘What do you know about this thing, The Last of Us?’ And he was like, ‘What?!' And so I agreed to voice this character Isaac Dixon for the game.”
The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 is the first time that an actor from the game returned to the series as the same character.
Explaining The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4's Isaac Dixon:
As stated, Isaac's life before the outbreak is not known in the original game except for his experience as a soldier. But The Last of Us Season 2 might flesh out this backstory in the upcoming episode next week. This change in next week's The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 was teased by Wright in a November 2024 interview with TVLine:
"People have asked… whether we’ll get a little bit of a backstory about Isaac? We might. It might not be pretty."
Just two days later, on November 28, 2024, Wright had this to say in a Collider interview with Executive Editor Tania Hussain:
"Yes. This first season will be an introduction for the character, and in introducing him, yeah, we might get a sense of how he came to be who he is. We might take a couple of steps backward before we reintroduce the character as we first see him in the game."
The actor further teased his character's rough introduction in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4, stating:
"However we introduce this character, you can be pretty certain it’s going to be messy."
When will Isaac Dixon appear in The Last of Us Season 2?
We'll first meet Isaac Dixon for the first time next week on The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4. However, his role in the episode remains unknown. The preview for episode 4 features his character in a FEDRA uniform. However, it remains to be seen if it is a disguise or if Isaac in the series is an ex-FEDRA soldier.
