The Great American Baking Show: Kim Goldfeder Clarke baked an "unusual" chocolate tart during the final Signature challenge
The finale episode for The Great American Baking Show featured various challenges, including the final Signature challenge. Bakers were instructed to make a chocolate tart. It was supposed to be an "exquisitely decorated tart."
One of the finalists, Kim Goldfeder Clarke, decided to make a baked-filling chocolate tart.
"I'm working on a chocolate pastry, I'm just going to blend it together. And then we've got to get it in the refrigerator to chill," shared Kim.
While preparing the tart, she mentioned it was dedicated to her mom. She mentioned her mother lives with her and her husband. Every morning after coffee, they look at the roses she had planted. Inspired by that, Kim's tart had a similar design.
Her tart had a chocolate coffee filling. It was topped by the hazelnut ganache that had dark chocolate in it. On top of that, she prepared delicate chocolate feathers and roses. She also decorated her tart with spirals.
While she was preparing the tart, the judges went to see how her tart was coming along. They asked her about her biggest competition in The Great American Baking Show finale. Kim responded, "Herself."
"I don't think them (finalists) as my competition. They are my friends. And the only person that I have to look in the mirror at the end of the day, it's me," she added.
Listening to her share this, show host Zach Cherry joked that her biggest competition was himself and co-host Casey Wilson.
Further in the challenge, as Kim was preparing the rose feathers made out of chocolate, the show host, Casey, went and inquired about that.
"Part of the decorations will be a rose surrounded by feathers, 'cause the feathers represent our ancestors that are no longer with us. When you see a feather, that's, like, to me, that's my grandma saying hello. Or Mr. Bentley saying, he's letting me know he's with me, so...," said Kim.
Then, she prepared a rose with chopped hazelnuts to enhance the flavor. After the tart was baked, she poured in the ganache as it was yet to be frozen. When the judges arrived to taste Kim's chocolate tart, they said it was "unorthodox" and "unusual" with "nice and shiny" ganache.
While Paul Hollywood said it was "very decadent," Prue Leith said she liked the brownie-like texture of the tart.
