1) Cutting Losses

Linda, who was Danny’s wife, played an important role in Blue Bloods. But in season 8, episode 1, the premiere highlights the aftermath of her death—which happened in a helicopter crash—and Danny’s coming to terms with it. Viewers associate Danny as a tough Marine, but his breakdown in therapy and his lashing towards his ex-brother-in-law proves that he is still in pain. 2) Two-Faced

In season 9, episode 17, the episode deals with the tragic loss of a child and morality. When Dr. David Peterson helps her daughter’s autoimmune disorder with an unconventional treatment, Erin Reagan is confused about whether he should be charged with murder.

The episode is a realistic but tough watch as it deals with a woman who has schizophrenia and is unable to get adequate care. In season 6, episode 4, the episode begins with a rivalry between the firefighters and the police, but it tackles the issue of inadequate support systems for mental health patients.
While Jamie tries to help the woman, it is discovered that she has committed suicide. The sad episode is therefore tragic but highlights social issues.
6) Love Lost

In season 7, episode 19, the show revolves around a heartbreaking moral decision. A woman, Emily, is found suffocated in her bed and her husband becomes the main suspect. In season 5, episode 1, the focus is not on the Reagan family, but on detective Maria Baez. The episode introduced Baez’s older brother Javier earlier and the brother and sister share a close bond.
After getting sober and becoming an informant for the police, Maria discovers that Javier is betraying both sides. In a tense fight with the drug mafia, he gets shot while trying to protect his sister and Baez’s grief is heavy to watch.
9) Little Fish

In season 1, episode 11, Frank deals with the guilt of failing to solve a decades old case, which is showcased in a heartening manner. When the renovations of a home reveal the skeleton of a young boy, Frank remembers that is the same case that he could not solve during his early days. The composure of the commissioner falters when it is revealed that the killer is a man that he had questioned and had let go.
10) The Blue Templar

The death of Joe Reagan is what began the show and in season 1, episode 22, viewers finally get to see who killed him. The episode delves into the details surrounding Joe’s death, which caused much pain to the Reagan family. It is a sorrowful episode as it highlights the effect a family member’s death has on his/her loved ones. The episode is bittersweet as while the perpetrators of Joe’s murder have been found, Joe will never come back.
