Andor season 2 is all set to hit the screens on April 22, 2025, marking an end to the almost three-year-long wait of the audience. The Disney+ series is set between the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and follows Cassian Andor, a thief who turns into a rebellion leader.
Diego Luna has played the character in the Disney+ series, as well as in Rogue One. However, the actor earlier expressed that Andor Season 2 could be the last time he plays the Rebel troops captain.
In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, Diego Luna said he would be done playing Cassian after the second season of the show, as the series finale would directly tie into Rogue One and there would be no more story left to be explored:
“Well, it’s not that I want to be done. I will be done. Because there’s nothing else for me to do, like the character in Andor walks into Rogue One, you know, unless it’s a dream.”
Diego Luna addressed his future as Cassian after Andor Season 2 in a 2023 interview
When Diego Luna was asked if he would be willing to return as Cassian Andor if the creators are able to come up with a story after Andor Season 2, the actor said he does not actually like that idea:
“I truly don’t think that way. I don’t like thinking like that. And in fact, if I can complain about something that this new format is bringing to actors, it is this constant anxiety of not knowing what’s coming.”
Explaining how the uncertainty affects actors, Luna said:
“You’re working on something, and … you signed contracts that talk about a future that might not happen. And that f**** with you. That is terrible because you’re not living the moment. So I don’t like it. I don’t like thinking that way.”
Luna also highlighted how tough it was for him to work on the show as he braced through challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic:
“I committed four and a half years of my life. I gave everything. I had to work in the worst circumstances of Covid. Made a family here. A lot has happened. And I am very, very, very excited that people are enjoying the show.”
Andor Season 2 is the final installment of the series
Andor is confirmed to end on Disney+ with its second season. The show chronicles Cassian Andor’s five-year-long journey from a thief and spy to the leader of the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. The conclusion of the show directly leads to the events of the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
For his portrayal of the titular character in the first season, Diego Luna earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in 2023. The series has been created by Tony Gilroy and is counted among the most successful Star Wars projects on Disney+.
Apart from Luna, the show stars Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Fiona Shaw as Maarva Andor, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Denise Gough as Dedra Meero, Elizabeth Dulau as Kleya Marki, Varada Sethu as Cinta Kaz, and Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha.
Andor season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
