Mike White's The White Lotus Season 3 finally saw an explosive finale, with many character deaths, but none as tragic as Chelsea. The sunshine girl of the season, who predicted her fate with the rule of threes, met her tragic end in the finale, with her boyfriend Rick joining her shortly after.

Since Rick revealed his vendetta against Jim Hollinger for killing his father, a crazy fan theory about his past has been circulating on the Internet. Fans speculated that Jim Hollinger was, in fact, Rick's father, which Sritala finally confirmed in the finale.

But it was too late for Rick to act on this new discovery as he had already shot Jim, and his girlfriend Chelsea also took a bullet in the aftermath of his violence.

More on Chelsea's tragic death in The White Lotus Season 3 finale in our story.

How did a fan theory about Rick come true in The White Lotus Season 3 finale?

Since Rick disclosed his personal vendetta against Jim Hollinger to Chelsea in The White Lotus Season 3, fans have speculated a wild theory about him and his past, which actually came true in the finale.

Rick says how his mother, Gloria Hatchett, revealed his father's truth on her deathbed. She unloads the truth about his father's death on Rick, saying that the man responsible for killing his father was Jim Hollinger, the American co-owner of the titular resort.

Since Jim Hollinger was introduced in Episode 7, a popular fan theory circulated that Jim did not kill Rick's father; in fact, he is his father. The theory went rampant after Rick downs a drink in front of Jim, with the latter calling him, “My kind of drinker.”

A Reddit user, u/WelcomeToBrooklandia, rightly summarises this theory:

''Because, to Rick's mother, Jim Hollinger (the man who walked out on her and moved to Thailand to start an entirely new life) effectively "killed" Rick's father (the man who impregnated her and who she hoped would be her partner/her child's father in every sense of the word). The fact that Jim reacted to "Gloria Hatchett" but not to any mention of him killing Gloria's husband does point to this possibility.''

This theory was proven true in The White Lotus Season 3 finale as Jim confronts Rick at the resort and calls his mother a liar, implying that she lied about Jim killing his father, which Sritala eventually revealed after Rick shot his father.

Rick's pursuit of truth took Chelsea's (and his) life in The White Lotus Season 3 finale

While Rick was content after his confrontation with Jim, he was again aggravated when the latter called his mother a liar. He went after him and, taking his gun, fatally shot him, ultimately leading to his death.

In The White Lotus Season 3 finale, while Sritala tends to his dying husband, she reveals that Jim was his father, as he admitted to her last night. The fact that the man he held responsible for his father's death was his father stirred Rick's core, but he did not have time to process this information as Chelsea took a bullet amidst the crazy shooting.

Rick's pursuit of truth and his relentless efforts to avenge his father's death caused this tragic fate to Chelsea, and he could not bear the guilt of losing his girlfriend because of him. He carries his dying girlfriend in his arms and runs for help, but Gaitok takes a shot at him, and he, too, dies.

Rick and Chelsea's lifeless bodies are shown floating in the nearby pond, with her words from earlier ringing aloud:

''And at this point, we’re linked. If a bad thing happens to you, it happens to me. I think we’re going to be together forever.''
