Amazon Prime Video's The Wheel of Time kicked off its Season 3, which is based on Robert Jordan's The Dragon Reborn, Book 3, in his series of fantasy novels of the same name.

While fans of the books might have recognized an important creature from the story's universe who made its debut in Season 3, non-book readers might be a little confused.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 premiere introduced another book element that could become a crucial weapon in the upcoming episodes. In the final moments of the premiere, a ghoulish creature attacked Nynaeve, stabbing her multiple times.

While initially, it appeared that Moiraine and Lanfear sent it to attack Rand and his two gangs, the severity of the creature's actions quickly revealed that he was not a part of Lanfear's plan. Instead, she identified the ghoulish creature as a Grey Man.

The Grey Men debuted in the Jordan's universe in Book 2 and are soulless creatures, who have sold their essence to the Dark One.

More on Grey Men and their connection with Moghedien in our story.

Who are the Grey Men in The Wheel Of Time Season 3?

Grey Men are soulless creatures that first debuted in Jordan's Book 2. While there is little information about them, they are dark, almost invisible creatures who have sold their literal soul to the Dark One in their service.

Unlike other followers like Darkfriend, a Grey Man trades his literal essence to their dark master, which is why they appear almost lifeless and soulless to others. Their name and appearance might suggest they would be easily identifiable, but it is very difficult to spot a grey man.

The best possible connection to understand who they are is with zombies, the undead, lifeless creatures. Grey men are also an army of undead creatures who are only alive in flesh.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 is surely raising the stakes by introducing a powerful follower of the Dark One, who is not human, Their introduction and the subsequent supernatural powers and danger they hold, will likely create problems for Rand and his gangs in the upcoming episodes.

Their appearance in the show's universe also highlights the worship and power the Dark One holds, as people have traded with their souls to serve him, which is a big deal. This deadly weapon introduces even more danger for Rand in his battle against the Dark One.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 implied Grey Men are Moghedien's Assassins

While Grey Men are based on The Wheel of Time source material, some changes are made to adapt them in the story. Firstly, in the books, Grey Men serve the Dark Lord, and it is implied that any Forsaken can use them when the need arises. The Grey Men does not hold accountability to a particular Forsaken.

But when Lanfear recognizes the Grey Men, she reveals that they can be created by only one Forsaken and it is heavily implied that it is Moghedien. The show changed this important bit from the books, maybe to restrict the appearance of Grey Man as it would not be possible to include them in all the season adaptations.

In addition, making them Moghedien's assassins also segregates her from the other Forsaken and hints that she might be on the path to becoming the superior among the thirteen of her Forsaken peers.

It would be interesting to see how she will use them further to exact her powers and against Rand. to protect the Dark One.
