The Voice Season 27 premiered on February 3, 2025 on NBC, which saw the return of favorite fan coach, Adam Levine, back to the big red chairs. The episode started with blind auditions, where the coaches were required to build their team.
The other three coaches on the show were John Legend and Michael Bublé along with new coach Kelsea Ballerini. Michael had just won The Voice season 26 as a judge and is back on the panel to lead off yet another group of contestants.
With the blind auditions beginning, the coaches were given different perks for selecting their artists. Two of these were the option of a block and replay. Block refers to when a coach can stop another coach from getting the artist that they would like.
However, there is only one block granted to each of them. As for the replay feature, the coaches can amend their choice of not selecting an artist if they later change their mind and want them.
The Voice season 27 recap - The Blind Auditions
The blind auditions start when we witness Jadyn Cree singing Still Into You. She is the daughter of Bryan Olesen, who came third in Season 25 and had come to the set again in support of his daughter.
As for Jadyn, only two coaches turned their chairs, Kelsea and Michael. After the chairs were turned, John immediately recognized her and said that he remembered seeing her before.
Upon seeing Bryan, he connected the dots. Ultimately, Jadyn decided to pair up with Coach Michael.
Later in the episode, Kelsea was the first one to use the Replay power for this season. She did it for Dan Kiernan, who sang High Hopes. He had offers from both, John Legend and Michael Bublé.
Seeing her passion, Dan decided to join Kelsea's team. This was the first time this season that the Replay power was used. It highlighted how important the feature could be.
Adam Levine was able to lock down three artists in his team, first being Grace Miller Moody, who performed Sunday Morning by Maroon 5. Then there was Ethan Eckenroad, who sang Northern Attitude and Darius J, who performed Caught Up.
By the end of the episode, John was only able to bag one artist for his team. He used the Block power to get Renzo, who sang Simple Man.
Kelsea also ended up with two more artists after Dan on The Voice. The first was Iris Herrera, who sang You Are My Sunshine. It was an emotional moment for her when an artist named Angie Rey, sang Kelsea's song Penthouse, which made her turn the chair and get her to join the team.
Michael also added another artist to his team. It was Carlos Santiago, who performed Right Here Waiting.
This is what the stats looked like before going to The Voice episode 2.
- Team Legend (1 of 12 full): Renzo
- Team Bublé (2 of 12 full): Carlos Santiago, Jadyn Cree
- Team Kelsea (3 of 12 full): Angie Rey, Dan Kiernan, Iris Herrera
- Team Adam (3 of 12 full): Darius J, Ethan Eckenroad, Grace-Miller Moody
The first episode set the stage for an insight into how the rest of the season of The Voice will fare. We saw Kelsea Ballerini in a highly competitive spirit, as she used the Replay feature. The episode also showcase John using his Block power to get Renzo. These instances highlighted how these features could shape teams and change the course of action for quite a few artists.
The Voice season 27 drops its new episodes weekly on Mondays at 8 PM Eastern Time on NBC. These episodes can also be streamed online via Peacock on the next day.
