Night three of the The Voice Season 26 Knockouts brought tears, surprises, and some particularly brutal eliminations. The April 19 episode saw five talented contestants bid farewell to their dreams of victory: Tate Renner from Team Reba, Georgia Starnes, and Mary McAvoy from Team Snoop's first knockout round, and the dynamic duo of ChrisDeo and Torre Blake from his second.
In a season that's already given us everything from Snoop Dogg's unexpectedly tender coaching moments to Michael Bublé's birthday wishes for Gwen Stefani's fashion sense (dream big, Michael!), this episode of The Voice proved particularly heart-wrenching.
While some contestants managed to dodge elimination through saves and steals, others had to pack their bags - but hey, at least they got to experience Snoop's legendary coaching style firsthand.
The Voice Season 26 Episode 14's first departures from Team Reba
In what could be dubbed "The Tale of DLT" (Danny, Lauren-Michael, and Tate), Reba McEntire faced a tough decision between three of her favorites. While Danny Joseph channeled his Crohn's disease battle into a powerful blues performance and Lauren-Michael Seller stuck to her faith-based approach, poor Tate Renner's rendition of "In Color" proved too colorless for the competition.
In a twist that surprised no one watching Reba on this season of The Voice, she chose Lauren-Michael as the winner but quickly saved Danny, leaving Tate to exit the stage.
Snoop Dogg's double-elimination drama
The D-O-Double G proved he could make tough decisions on The Voice without losing his cool, even if it meant breaking some hearts. In his first knockout, Georgia Starnes' bold country move and Mary McAvoy's Radiohead attempt fell short against Aliyah Khaylyn's R&B styling.
Then, in what might go down as this season's most emotional knockout, ChrisDeo's "enchanting" performance and Torre Blake's country experiment couldn't outshine Mikaela Ayira's inspirational moment. Watching Snoop get emotional while sending contestants home might be the most unexpectedly touching television moment of 2024.
Team Gwen and Team Bublé keep things interesting with well-timed saves and steals
Gwen Stefani managed to keep both her contestants (Jan Dan and Sydney Sterlace) through a save, while Bublé saw Sofronio Vasquez emerge victorious, with Jeremy Beloate getting a last-minute steal from Snoop. It's worth noting that Mor Ilderton "had to go home" before the knockouts for unnamed unexplained reasons, but we sure hope he's doing okay and doesn't regret missing Bublé's birthday too much.
What to expect from the upcoming, highly anticipated Playoffs?
The Voice playoffs this season are about to get even more interesting with Machine Gun Kelly joining Team Gwen as her playoff advisor.
Yes, you read that right - the ‘Lonely Roads’ singer who once feuded with Eminem is now giving singing advice on The Voice. But given his genre-bending success (remember when MGK was just a rapper? No? Me neither.) and recent baby news with Megan Fox, maybe he's exactly the kind of wildcard these contestants need.
As for the competition itself, things are about to get brutal. Each team of five will be slashed to just two contestants. With rookie coaches Snoop and Bublé showing surprising strategic chops, Reba gunning for back-to-back wins, and Gwen bringing in punk-rock royalty for advice, the competition is anybody's game.
One thing's for certain: if you thought Knockouts were emotional, you might want to stock up on tissues for the Playoffs. And maybe send some to Snoop - our favorite rapper-turned-sweetheart might need them.
Who knows? Between Snoop's heartfelt coaching and MGK's unexpected mentoring wisdom, The Voice Season 26 might just end up being the most surprisingly tender season yet.
Tate Renner from Team Reba, Georgia Starnes, Mary McAvoy from Team Snoop, and the duo ChrisDeo and Torre Blake, also from Team Snoop, have bid The Voice Season 26 goodbye.
