The upcoming God of War series showrunner reveals the number of Seasons greenlit at Amazon

God of War TV series has been greenlit for two seasons at Amazon. It follows the story of a former Greek god, Kratos who embarks on a journey to fulfill the last wish of his late wife with his son Atreus. Kratos and Atreus must learn to survive amidst villainous creatures and gods.

According to a post by Culture Crave, a website that covers pop culture news on movies, TV, and games, the writer and showrunner of the God of War Ronald D. Moore confirmed the approval of 2 seasons. This shows the maker's trust in the unreleased show which will adapt the storyline of the 2018 God of War game.

2 seasons greenlit at Amazon of the God of War TV series

Moore appeared in a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff in the Sackhoff show where he admitted that he tried to play the game but was unable to because of the modern controllers he can't understand.

“I’ve tried. I’m not a gamer, you know. I’ve taken a stab at it but I don’t have… I grew up in the arcade era […] but the controllers now […] ‘Press R1.’ And I’m like, which one is R1? Oh, I’m dead.”

He added that unlike him, his children and wife can do it very easily. He has not played video games since the 80s and making a show based on one was completely new and challenging.

"I grew up in the Arcade era you know you go down, you put your quarters in, and bang on the buttons. I have played Defender or Asteriods, sure, bring it on. Or centipede for that matter."

But currently, he is part of a modern game's writer's room therefore making a world out of the same has become more challenging in this case.

"Right now I'm working on the adaptation of this video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they have asked me to come in. I'm literally in the writers room and working on that. That's my new thing […] And I’m not a gamer, so it’s even more like, ‘Okay, I’ve never done this before."

However, Moore is known for his work in science fiction fantasy such as the Star Trek Franchise, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind. He has shared credit as a writer and producer in various popular TV series.

According to reports, the production of the show was ordered in 2022. God of War is developed by Amazon Studios in partnership with Sony Pictures TV and Playstation Productions. The show indeed comes with some brilliant twists as Kratos and Atreus begin their journey to fulfill Faye's last wish to sprinkle her ashes off the highest peak of all the nine realms.
