What happened in The Studio Episode 4?
The Studio Episode 4, titled The Missing Reel, dropped on April 9, 2025. This episode showed Matt's passion and love for old-school filmmaking. In this episode, Matt and Sal were on a venture to find a missing reel from the set of Rolling Blockout.
Matt was highly enthusiastic and passionate about the project as it was made using old filming techniques. When the film was about to be projected, Matt was informed by his teammate and executive Sal Saperstein about the missing reel of the film.
Matt and Sal soon started to search for the missing reel before the news reached the tabloids. They interviewed the director, Olivia Wilde, who was shattered with the news of the missing reel. Wilde revealed the lead actor, Zac Efron, did have some issues with her.
Upon further investigation, Matt and Sal found an envelope filled with cash from Zac's vanity. They saw the costume designer take the envelope and elope to the hotel where Zac was staying.
However, it was not Zac who stole the reel. He was arranging for a party for the cast and crew, barring Matt and Wilde since he did not enjoy their company.
After several twists and turns and Sal's unusual talent for identifying alcohol just by smelling, it was revealed that Olivia Wilde, the director, was behind the entire fiasco of the missing reel. Wilde did not like Zac Efron's performance in the climax scene and wanted to reshoot it.
Reshooting on film is far more difficult, time-consuming, and costlier than digital filmmaking. However, Matt is determined to reshoot the scene in analogue. He thus decides to sell his car for two million to Zac Effron and funds the film.
What to expect in The Studio Episode 5?
The Studio Episode 5, titled The War, will delve into Continental Studios' office politics. The synopsis of the episode, as per Apple TV's official website,
"Frustated by her position in the office hierarchy, Quinn wages a war against Sal"
It would be interesting to see whom Matt would support in this situation – his friend and executive Sal or Quinn Hackett (Chase Sui Wonders). As previously seen, Matt's passion for analogue filmmaking and supporting meaningful projects has driven him to a tough financial situation.
Can Matt continue to support such artistic ventures instead of hollow blockbusters? Can Matt navigate or take control of the growing resentment among the team?
To know more, watch The Studio Episode 5 on April 16, 2025, on Apple TV+.
