The Sticky is a new crime comedy based on a multi-million dollar heist of a maple syrup surplus. Showrunners Ed Herro and Brian Donovan found the premise hilarious and thought the subject matter would be amazing as a dark comedy. The series is set for release on December 6, 2024.

Blumhouse Television, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jonathan Levine’s Megamix, and Sphere Media produce the series with Lee Curtis as a guest star.

Surprisingly, the show is based on one of the biggest heists in Canadian history which made it to international headlines. Maple syrup is considered liquid Gold in Canada, thus a heist of this stature.

The “Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist” made headlines in 2012 when over $18 million (CAD) worth of maple syrup was stolen from Quebec's National Reserve.

While the actors were shocked to learn that the incident was real, the showrunners said this news inspired The Sticky. Here is everything you need to know about the show.

The official description for the show reads,

''It follows Ruth Landry, a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves. She teams up with the hot-tempered Bostonian mobster and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard to carry out a multi-million dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus'''

According to the showrunners, the story is about three underdogs who go to every limit possible to steal from the Canadian authorities. Speaking more on the show's plot, Donovan said in a statement,

“What’s more fun than a story about quirky underdogs risking everything to stick it to the man? That’s ‘The Sticky,’ about three oddball outsiders who decide that if no one’s gonna give them their fair share they’ll just have to team up and steal it.”
