Following the explosive finale of The Rookie Season 6, fans of the ABC show have been eagerly waiting for the next installment. The wait is over, for The Rookie Season 7 will drop on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 10 pm ET on ABC.
The latest season of The Rookie will once again chronicle a day-to-day police procedural narrative, with protagonist John Nolan, played by Nathan Fillion, at the centre of the plot.

It is now known that the seventh season of the ABC show was originally slated to release in the fall of 2024. However, production was delayed owing to the erstwhile Hollywood strikes, prompting the network to push the release date to the first half of 2025.
While most of the major characters return on The Rookie Season 7, the character of Bailey Nune will be absent for a few episodes owing to the pregnancy of actress Jenna Dewan who essays the role. Here is the lowdown on the upcoming season.

Showrunner opens up about The Rookie Season 7
Speaking in an interview with Parade magazine, showrunner Alexi Hawley opened up about Season 7 of the ABC show. He stated:
"We do so many things per episode that are unique to that episode. But, there’s a lot of storylines that we really do pull through multiple episodes here in a really dynamic way. That I wasn’t necessarily expecting, but there’s a lot of rich storytelling going on for all of our characters this year."
Asked about the decision to bring in two new cast members, Hawley said:
"There’s a lot of stories that we tell. I think at the end of the day it felt like I knew I wanted to bring on some new rookies and it felt like we’d told a really dynamic story for Aaron. It doesn’t mean we’ll never see him again. He transferred to a different station. The way we wrap it up in the first episode is that he was trying to get away from the stigma of being a patient of Blair London, who was the corrupt police therapist, so he ultimately wanted to go someplace where people weren’t looking at him, because he fell under a cloud a bit at the end of last season."
The Rookie Season 7 will air exclusively on ABC and the episodes will be available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
