The Rookie Season 7 Episode 5 finally made progress on Jason, Bailey's ex-husband's storyline, which was teased in the Season 6 finale.
Everybody knew that after escaping from prison, Jason would come after Bailey and Nolan, but Episode 5 saw a hitman shooting Jason which means he is finally dead. But Bailey helped eliminate Jason, which might not sit right with Nolan.
Elsewhere, Lucy uncovered a secret about her rookie, Seth. Earlier in the show, we saw Seth telling stories about two girls he dated back in school.
However, when Lucy went to Seth's school, she discovered that he had never dated any girls. This is weird because why would he lie about that? As it turns out, Seth is a pathological liar, which Lucy discovers when she confronts him.
Upon confrontation, Seth admits that he made up the stories about his girlfriends and he has a habit of cooking up lies about the most random things when he is in trouble.
He seems genuine and promises Lucy that he is working on this issue, but this is bound to have complications in Lucy's relationship with her new rookie because how can she trust her partner, who is a liar?

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 5 introduces a new villain
The Rookie Episode 5 introduced a new villain and a new problem for Nyla. She has been working on a serial killer case with the LAPD for the past two episodes, and they even had a confession. But the latest episode hints that there might be somebody else behind the killings.
After somebody attacked her in the asylum, she had her eyes fixated on Liam Glasser, the vending machine operator who supplies to the hospital, too. Nyla becomes quite sure that it was Liam who attacked her, and that he is the one who is connected to the killings.
The two even have a banter, where Nyla warns him that she will come after him once she gathers enough evidence. But that might take some time as they already have a confession with them. As Liam is dangerous, it would be interesting to see Nyla go head-on with a new villain.
Jason's chapter finally closes in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 5
While The Rookie introduced a new villain, it closed another villain's chapter for now. Season 6's cliffhanger saw Jason escaping from prison, seemingly to come back for revenge on Bailey and Nolan.
While Nolan wanted to play by the book and put Jason behind bars once again, Bailey finds an unlikely partner in a hitman named El Malvado, sent by Jason's enemies to kill him.
Bailey's desperation to get rid of Jason gets the best of her, and she teams up with a criminal to kill Jason. She tells El about Jason's whereabouts who then shoots him to his death.
Bailey's actions will likely have repercussions when Nolan gets to know how his wife got rid of her ex-husband, and the future episodes will likely focus on how this incident will affect their relationship.
