When most people are settled at 45, John Nolan decided to kick-start his career as a rookie. That's exactly what The Rookie is all about, featuring fan-adored actor Nathan Fillion in the leading role.

After parting ways with his wife at 45, John stepped away from a small town to chase his dream and become a police officer in a fast-paced city with the LAPD. The catch? He is much older than the average recruit, making him the oldest rookie in the force.

The series traces Nolan's progression through the police academy. His initial days patrolling and how he handles the physical, emotional, and mental challenges of the job. Meanwhile, it also delves into his personal background, Nolan's relationships, and how he attempts to balance everything and prove he has a place in this profession.

As seen in the latest The Rookie Season 7 episode, the story focuses on a woman from Nolan's son Henry's past. She is described as a woman with big dreams who was passionate about filmmaking, and now the titular officer is tasked with handling a new case that links to the woman.

In The Rookie Season 7 Episode 15, Officer John Nolan is pulled into a chilling case when a documentary crew reopens the file on Abigail Tierney—a woman who used to be engaged to Nolan’s son. Once a familiar face to the family, Abigail had big dreams and even tried her hand at filmmaking.

As revealed in The Rookie Season 7, her latest project was a true-crime documentary centered on an abandoned psychiatric hospital with a dark history involving serial killers and suspicious experiments.

With little funding and burned industry bridges, she turned to Carl Ditweiler, a former hospital employee who became infatuated with her. Their collaboration took a dark turn when Abigail mysteriously disappeared during filming, after wandering off inside the creepy facility.

The police initially brushed off the case, thinking she ghosted people like she had before, until they discovered Carl's disturbing obsession—a wall of photos of Abigail and his desperate denial of knowing her.

The investigation intensified in The Rookie Season 7 episode when new audio footage suggested something supernatural might be at play in the hospital. As Nolan and his team teamed up with YouTube ghost hunters, they uncovered a sealed-off area behind a wall. And shockingly, Abigail was alive inside.

She had been trapped there for two weeks with only trail mix and old protein bars left behind by another man, Bob, who had died months earlier. Abigail and later even Tim and Lucy started hallucinating due to contaminated water laced with leftover experimental drugs.

The hospital’s past was darker than anyone imagined in The Rookie Season 7. Once a site for illegal government mind-control tests, the residue of those experiments literally lingered in the building’s walls, still affecting those who entered.

As Abigail pieced things together, she found out her near-death experience wasn’t just bad luck. Carl had been ordered to kill her by none other than Meg Davison, a film director with a sinister agenda.

Davison had discovered the truth about the hospital’s MK-Ultra ties and turned it into a scheme for financial gain. She targeted wealthy patients, drugging them to maintain control and exploit them through conservatorship.

Abigail’s tip-off came from Bob, the late private investigator who had uncovered Davison’s web of abuse before she silenced him. In the end, Abigail helped expose Davison’s crimes and reclaimed her voice by vowing to tell her story on her own terms.

The documentary crew, who started it all, were left in the dust, and the hospital, truly haunted or not, remained a place full of sinister energy and secrets that refused to stay buried.
