The epic finale of The Rings of Power Season 2 takes place in an episode titled "Shadow and Flame,” wherein the mystery surrounding the true 'Lord of the Rings' is addressed once and for all with Sauron being the title's holder.

It is no surprise that fans of Tolkien's world were always familiar with Sauron’s role. But this finale episode took a step further, moving past his title confirmation and into how his dark influence over the Rings of Power cements his position as the true master of the rings.

This moment is one of the most crucial moments in the whole finale, as it shows how deep Sauron’s manipulation and control are over the middle earth. The official summary of the show as seen on IMDb reads as below:

“Epic drama set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.”

Sauron’s dominion in The Rings of Power Season 2

Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers, is one of the key characters in the show. His deep involvement in making the powerful rings comes to light with his interaction with Celebrimbor, the greatest of the Elven smiths.

The finale shows the tragic death of Celebrimbor, and while dying, he makes the revelation everyone had been waiting for—the revelation of Sauron as "The Lord of The Rings," highlighting the Dark Lord's ultimate control over the rings’ fate.

Sauron was directly involved in forging sixteen of the crucial rings. Out of these sixteen rings; seven were for the Dwarves, and the remaining nine were for Men. This even went on to influence the creation of the three Elven Rings.

The power of Sauron reaches it’s peak when he masters forging one ring that is the supreme ring; and it can control all the other rings. This leads to him becoming the undisputed leader of the Lord of the Rings. The rest of the keys all end up losing their powers, as his ring now holds the control over all the other rings.

The Temptation and Downfall of Celebrimbor

Celebrimbor’s tragic arc in The Rings of Power unfolds as Sauron, disguised as Annatar, lures him with promises of greatness. Celebrimbor has always dreamt of surpassing his grandfather Fëanor, who is otherwise seen as a legendary figure; the possibility of getting the “Lord of the Rings” title plays on his mind and starts off his downfall.

The intent of Sauron is something that is wrapped up in dark ambitions; it is this that Celebrimbor fails to see. Sauron uses Celebrimbor’s influence to forge the Rings of Power with his dark intent.

By the time Celebrimbor realized the true meaning of Sauron’s title, it was a little too late and the damage was already done. This eventually led to the death of Celebrimbor and Sauron reigns supreme as the Lord of the Rings.

It was a gripping finale that kept the audience on edge.
