The Righteous Gemstones seems to be nearing the end of its journey on HBO. Although the network has yet to confirm an official release date, the fourth and last season of The Righteous Gemstones is expected to hit the screens sometime this March. The Righteous Gemstones, created by Danny McBride, is an entertaining comedy show that has been engaging audiences ever since its debut season premiered in 2019.
In a recent statement that announced the impending end of The Righteous Gemstones, Danny McBride revealed:
"The Lord spoke to me and said it’s time to wrap this sucker up. The story this season made the themes, ideas, and characters in The Righteous Gemstones feel whole and complete. I have loved every second of working with this team for the past eight years, and there are some incredible payoffs, twists, and turns in store over the course of this wild final season.”
Here's everything that we know.
The Righteous Gemstones: Season 4 release details explored
As mentioned earlier, the fourth season will premiere sometime in March this year. The exact date of release has yet to be announced. It can be expected that the show will once again air exclusively on HBO.
Production for the fourth season began in May 2024, as teased by Edi Patterson, who plays Judy Gemstone. She posted a photo of the show's clapperboard, captioned "YES LORD." Patterson and her co-stars have since posted further behind-the-scenes photographs, including one of herself next to her trailer, while Tony Cavalero has uploaded exercise vids with onscreen beau Adam Devine.
According to Walter Goggins, filming for the fourth season of The Righteous Gemstones has been concluded. "Just wrapped season 4 of the TRG," Goggins said on Instagram in October 2024, using initials to indicate the series' title. In addition to the message, he posted many behind-the-scenes photographs, largely in black and white, "out of respect for our costume designer and HBO," Goggins explained.
What is the plot of The Righteous Gemstones Season 4?
The official logline of the upcoming season reads:
"When the spoiled Gemstone children finally get their wish to take control of the Church, they discover leadership is harder than they imagined and that their extravagant lifestyle comes with a heavy price.”
Apart from this, there's not much information going around about what the plot for the fourth season might be. Goggins spoke to TV Insider during the Gotham TV Awards back in June 2024:
"I’ve read the scripts. Six or seven of them, and Danny is one of my best friends. There is no bigger fan of Danny McBride than me, and these scripts are so unbelievably good. And I would venture to say that Episode 1 and what he did with that is on par with one of the best things he’s ever, ever written in the history of his career. Personally, that’s how I feel about it."
Cast details explored
The program, which has included guest actors such as Steve Zahn, Jason Schwartzman, Eric André, and Kristen Johnston in previous seasons, is going out on a high note with an amazing roster of supporting performers. Megan Mullally, a Will & Grace veteran, and Seann William Scott, an American Pie series star, were just revealed to join the cast. Plus, considering that it's the Gemstones' final outing, we're sure McBride will throw in a few surprise appearances to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.
