The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 Episode 2, 'You Hurled Me Into the Very Heart of the Seas,' will air on HBO on March 16, 2025, at 7 p.m. PT. You can also stream the episode on Max. The comedy series will air weekly episodes every Sunday.

What to expect from The Righteous Gemstones Season 4?

As the final season of the show, creator Danny McBride opened up about what viewers can expect from the fourth season in an interview with GQ:

''There's a lot of unexpected twists and turns, and some incredible payoffs for the characters, for the growth of some of these people. I'm really excited to see what people think about this thing being all wrapped up.''

Considering it is the last season of the show, fans can expect closing arcs of all the major characters, but with many unexpected twists and guest stars, as McBride noted:

''...we have some new members of the cast that are joining us—Megan Mullally, Seann William Scott...this is a family drama. You're following the ins and outs and the growth of these people, and so this season is no different.''

What happened in The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 premiere?

The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 opened with a 'Prelude' episode, in which we learn the backstory of how the Gemstones received their first divine call and how it became a family legacy.

Bradley Cooper guest stars as Elijah Gemstones in 1862 Virginia, where he robs a church in between the sermon and shoots the pastor dead. Just while he is collecting all the church riches and the reverend's gold-plated Bible, the Confederate soldiers arrive on the scene.

Elijah improvises and impersonates to be the pastor (he just shot). and is transported with the soldiers to their new division as their new chaplain. This new duty, pretending to be the Man of God, does not sit right with him as he does not know anything about it. He still pretends and prays with the sick and injured at the base.

During an ambush, Elijah is taken hostage, along with the other soldiers, by the Union. While he is saved because of the Bible, he sees the other soldiers die at the hands of their captors.

But before their death, he says a last prayer with them, actually from his heart for the first time. He actually eases their pain in their final moments, and they die knowing that they might go to heaven, as the "pastor" said.

After all the soldiers are shot dead, Elijah makes sure that their bodies are transported back and sits to read the Bible from the beginning, which started the family's religious legacy in The Righteous Gemstones.
