Amazon Prime Video's The Rig recently premiered its second season, and the gripping tale of the Kinloch Bravo crew gets even more intense as the supernatural entity Ancestor makes itself known in the finale.
Starring Emily Hampshire, Iain Glen, Martin Compston, and Mark Bonnar in the titular roles, the story follows the Kinloch Bravo crew, who are cut off from the outside world while working on an oil rig in the North Sea. Soon, they learn about the existence of a supernatural entity that has caused behavioral changes for many crew members.
While the show has not been renewed for Season 3 yet, the Season 2 finale left the viewers with many questions and secrets, which would make for an exciting Season 3. The show's stars recently expressed their willingness to return for a third installment.
More on The Rig stars and their willingness to return for Season 3 in our story.
The Rig cast expressed their desire for a potential Season 3
Since Season 2 is out and Prime Video has not yet renewed the show for another season, fans are eagerly waiting to hear about the future of their beloved show. The cast has also expressed their desire for Season 3, as 'there is more to tell.'
In an interview with RadioTimes, series star Glen shares his thoughts about the show's future:
"It does feel that we haven't completed that journey. It does feel that we've done the middle chapter. There is more to tell...[The show has] a natural progression, which is really hard thing to do, and it's a really, really good storytelling event."
He added:
"I think it's got something pretty unique about it. For a character-led drama to have that strength of theme, but also take you to such diverse worlds and create them so completely... it's very hard to generate."
While the cast agrees that The Rig is a unique story, they also acknowledged the options available to audiences now, making even good storytelling insufficient. Series star Emily Hampshire wants people to watch the show, as she expressed in an interview with The Mirror:
"What's hard now is there's so much television so it doesn't even matter how great it is, because it actually is really great. Which doesn't always happen. But, people have to find it and they have to be motivated to watch it. Just... make them do it! Make them watch it and then love it so we can come back to Scotland."
Rochenda Sandall expressed hope for Season 3 in an interview with RadioTimes:
"Hopefully a series 3 can get even bigger and better than this series as well, because it just goes and plays along with world politics. The possibilities are endless."
What happened in The Rig Season 2 finale?
Pictor Operations suffers a dual blow in The Rig Season 2 finale. The supernatural entity "Ancestor" finally makes its existence known in the finale by illuminating the oceans. This brings global attention to the company, which means their secrets are about to be exposed.
Elsewhere, Cat reveals Morgan's confessions to the world, exposing Pictor's role in the tsunami. These major setbacks set Pictor for a grim future for Season 3 if that project continues.
Rose's connection with the Ancestor is again established after she helps the entity heal from the poisoned device Bremmer let out to thwart it. While the crew makes haste to save the entity, it's hinted that Ancestor might be in for a dangerous future, too, after the government and big companies try to contain and study it in the future.
