The Pitt Season 1 episode 8 continues the story of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s ER team, who deal with some high-stakes cases. As each episode of the show depicts one full hour of their 15-hour shift, the recent episode showcases what happens in the emergency room from 2 PM to 3 PM.

Dr. Collins, who was just getting to terms with her pregnancy, suffers a miscarriage and decides to keep her struggle a secret from her colleagues. Meanwhile, the team deals with the case of an old man named Willie, who complains of issues with his pacemaker.

At the same time, two heartbreaking deaths occur in the episode, including that of a young girl who passed away by drowning. Here is the complete The Pitt Season 1 episode 8 recap.

The Pitt Season 1 Episode 8 recap: Collins hides her pain from her team

Dr. Collins struggles emotionally and physically due to her miscarriage. But she does not tell anyone what is wrong. Right from the start, she looks pale and distracted. Robby notices her and asks if she is okay; however, she avoids him.

Instead, she throws herself into work and deals with medical cases non-stop to distract herself. While Robby suspects something is wrong, he decides to give Collins her space.

Meanwhile, she checks an ultrasound in a private room to confirm her miscarriage. Robby accidentally walks in and sees the screen, but he does not fully understand what is happening. Meanwhile, Collins refuses to talk about it.

The Pitt Season 1 Episode 8 recap: The doctors take up Willie’s case

In The Pitt Season 1 episode 8, an elderly man named Willie Alexander comes to the ER with heart problems. The doctors discover that his pacemaker is damaged, and he also has dementia. As they examine him, they notice he knows a lot of medical terms, even though he says he has never been a doctor.

Willie’s son, Eli, later explains that his father was once involved in the medical field and was trained under Dr. Adamson, a well-known doctor. Robby feels a personal connection since Adamson was his mentor too, who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team eventually finds out that Willie’s pacemaker is failing because of Twiddler’s Syndrome, a rare condition where a patient unknowingly moves their pacemaker.

The Pitt Season 1 Episode 8 recap: Other cases during the hour

One of the saddest moments in the episode is about Amber Phillips, a six-year-old girl who drowned in a pool. The ER team does everything they can to save her. They perform chest compressions and try to revive her. But her potassium levels get too high, and she dies.

Meanwhile, Dr. McKay and Dana treat a young woman named Piper, who comes in with stomach pain. Her boss, Laura, is very controlling, which makes the doctors suspect that Piper might be a victim of sex trafficking.

During a medical exam, they try to talk to Piper alone, but she does not say much and the case is left unresolved. On the other hand, Rita, who had disappeared earlier, finally returns to the ER. Mel had been worried about her, but it turned out Rita had just fallen asleep in her car.

She is overwhelmed from taking care of her sick mother. Dr. Mohan also has a breakthrough in the episode as she figures out that a beauty influencer’s health problems are caused by a face cream with dangerous mercury levels.

The episode ends on a high note as the hospital holds an honor walk for Nick Bradley, a patient who died of an overdose. His parents agree to donate his organs, and Robby tells them many of the staff members want to attend his funeral.

The Pitt airs new episodes on Max on Thursdays.
