The Pitt continues to keep the audience hooked with its earnest portrayal of the emergency room. Unlike other medical dramas, the Max series dives deep into the functioning of a hospital as each episode focuses on one hour of a 15-hour shift.
In the latest episode, 12:00 P.M., the staff has to deal with the mid-day traffic at the hospital as more and more patients are arriving while they are still tending to previously admitted people. Meanwhile, Dr. Robby gets into trouble with the management.
At the same time, Dr. Trinity Santos’ overconfidence takes a hit as she messes up a critical procedure. The personal lives of the staff also continue to be a part of the narrative, especially as Dr. Collins finally seems to be okay with her pregnancy. Here is the complete The Pitt Season 1 episode 6 recap.
The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6 recap: Dr. Robby’s struggle with the management
Dr. Robby finds himself in a tough spot when hospital administrator Gloria and a rep from a private healthcare company, ECQ, confront him about the ER’s poor performance. Patient satisfaction scores are low, and the board is thinking about letting ECQ take over.
Robby argues that better patient care needs more staff and resources, not just new rules. But Gloria ignores his concerns and tells him to either work with what he has got or lose control of his department. Robby feels frustrated and calls for a quick team meeting.
He introduces new policies to speed things up, like Always Discharge First (ADF), which focuses on freeing up beds fast. Some doctors, like Collins and Langdon, complain that the hospital cares more about money than patients. Despite Robby’s efforts, the tension between the medical staff and management continues to grow.
The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6 recap: Dr. Collins seems to accept her pregnancy
Till now, Dr. Collins has not fully dealt with how she feels about becoming a mother, and it is starting to affect her work. However, things seem to finally change in The Pitt Season 1 episode 6. Collins’ outlook shifts when she treats a young man with a painful testicle injury.
His mother asks the doctor if she has kids, to which Collins surprisingly replies she will have them soon, hinting that she is beginning to accept her situation. She later buys an expensive stroller to celebrate.
However, Collins has to face trouble in the episode as well, as she gets hit while trying to stop an argument between a pregnant teen and her mom. Thankfully, the doctor does not get hurt.
The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6 recap: Dr. Santos makes a mistake in the operating room
Dr. Santos’ nasty attitude leads to her downfall in the episode. During a procedure in the operating room, she is tasked with inserting a chest tube into a patient under the supervision of Dr. Garcia. However, she mistakenly drops the scalpel in the middle of the procedure, and it lands on Garcia’s foot.
Despite the injury, Garcia finishes the procedure herself and immediately pulls Santos out of the case. She later confronts the intern and tells her that arrogance can prove to be dangerous in the medical field.
Besides the major plot points, the episode continues to showcase medical emergencies as Robby has to break heartbreaking news to a couple whose son is brain-dead.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mel King feels guilty when a caregiver, Rita, goes missing, leaving her elderly and schizophrenic mom alone. She then finds emotional support from Dana. The incident makes Mel think about her sister, who also lives in a care facility.
New episodes of The Pitt are aired on Max on Thursdays.
