The Pitt premiered on Max on January 9, 2025, and after the first two episodes dropped together, new episodes have been airing weekly. Episode 5 aired on January 30, 2025, and gave fresh insight into the life of Dr. Michael "Robby" Rabinavitch (Noah Wyle), along with some new cases.
The show follows a group of doctors at a fictional hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as they deal with one case after the other. What’s interesting about The Pitt is that each episode covers an hour of an emergency 15-hour shift in a single day. This makes the narrative intense leaving little space for a breather, as one incident follows the other.
ER alum Noah Wyle captains The Pitt, and in his own words:
“This is building a pressure cooker hour by hour, degree by degree, ingredient by ingredient, playing with levels of fatigue and an ability to compartmentalize things that need to be compartmentalized. This has been a wonderful psychological examination of one guy having one of the worst days of his life and the presence required in just that exercise.”
With each episode getting more intense, and Episode 6 set to air on February 6, 2025, let us now do a quick recap of Episode 5 and its important incidents.
The following article contains spoilers.
Dr. Robby’s son visits him in The Pitt Episode 5
The Pitt Episode 5 provides some more insight into Dr. Robby’s personal life, as his son Jake (Taj Speights), a 17 year old boy, pays him a visit. The department quickly warms up to Jake, treating him as one of their own.
Jake gets condoms from Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) and Nurse Princess (Kristin Villanueva), while Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa) gives him a motherly hug, Jake’s father tells him not to accept drugs of any kind from any unknown person.
Another important detail that is revealed about Dr. Robby’s personal life is that he and Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) had previously dated, but only for a brief while.
While the episode showed some chemistry between the two, which hinted at their past relationship, chances of reconciliation were diminished by Collins, who asked Donna to rather calm down about it.

Dr. Heather Collins is helped by Dr. Robby in an abortion case in The Pitt Episode 5
While dealing with the medical abortion of a teenager, Collins gets uncomfortable at a point because the case involves falsifying medical records. Besides the fact that she herself is pregnant, Collins does not feel comfortable with the idea of forgery.
This is where Robby steps in and ensures that Collins does not have to do it. He decides that since he is visiting and has tenure, he would conduct a third examination and sign the required documents, which would ensure Collins, a resident, does not get involved.
Moreover, it would ensure that the young girl, Kristi gets rid of the pregnancy that she did not want. Things are fine till Kristi’s mother appears at the ER. It turns out the one pretending to be the mother was actually Kristi's sister.
Since Kristi is 17 years old and a minor, it would be her mother’s decision that would stand regarding her abortion.
