The episode begins with the medics attending the injured victims of the mass shooting when Dr. Robby heads to the ER floor to help an injured police officer named Richie. The doctors are seemingly worried about the presence of the police officers and SWAT team as they hear the rumors of a shooter trying to infiltrate the hospital.

On the other hand, nervous but determined Whittaker and Javadi head towards the roof, where a helicopter lands with some fresh blood supplies. Whitaker instructs Javadi to take the blood supplies to the trauma roof first and then to the patients in the hub. Whitaker and Javadi distribute blood bags among doctors when Dr. Robby notices Whitaker's nervousness and asks him whether he is doing okay. Meanwhile, Dana instructs the police officers team,

"Except for the partner, all of you, in the BH2 right now. You can watch from the window"

Thankfully, Bridget, the head nurse of the night shift, arrives at the hospital and joins Dana to help the victims. Meanwhile, Dr. Whittaker and Dr. Melissa King take on a new patient, Buster Pirelli, a children's entertainer who was among the victims of the music fest shooting. When Whittaker tries to give Pirelli an IO instead of a regular IV, he starts to scream. Dr. King pulls Whitaker aside and instructs him that if the patient is awake and alert, he/she should be administered standard IV and not an IO dose.

Meanwhile, Robby and Mohan, with the help of Dr. Abbott, are finally successful in incubating Richie, the injured police officer, as his teammates fist-bump each other as a sign of relief. In a separate cabin, Kiara and Lupe take pictures of a dead patient's body to make the identification process easier.

What follows is utter chaos as severely injured victims arrive one after the other. As Dr. McKay and Javadi take care of a patient called Sally, Langdon and Mateo supervise an old man. As he tries to lift his pants, he notices a gun and alerts everybody on the floor. The SWAT arrives and identifies the gun as a Sig P365 9 mil. The injured old man remains unconscious when Langdon tries to intubate him; meanwhile, Robby steps in and helps Langdon with a tactile incubating method.

Robby finds Jake among the victims of the mass shooting: The Pitt, Episode 13 recap

As the dedicated doctors continue to save the lives of the critically injured victims of the PittFest music festival, videos and emails hoard the hospital website, mostly from the victim's family.

Meanwhile, Robby went down to check on the upcoming victims when he noticed Jake and his severely injured girlfriend, Leah, on an open truck. Even though Robby is quite relieved to see Jake alive, he is worried about Leah and takes her to the ER. Robby asks Jake to sit down in a wheelchair as the doctors begin to operate on Leah. Robby instructs the doctors,

"I need an IO. Hang a unit of O negative."

Meanwhile, Jake left his wheelchair to see his girlfriend Leah's condition when Whittaker asked him to get back to his wheelchair. Unable to control Jake, Robby shouts back at him, saying,

"Jake, get in the damn wheelchair now! Go!"

Robby continues to operate on Leah and perform CPR to revive her pulse. Robby asks for another pack of blood for Leah. On the other hand, Santos helps with Jake's gunshot wound as he keeps asking for information about his girlfriend.

Robby administers around four bags of blood to Leah, but she makes no signs of recovery. Dr. Abbott grows quite concerned about Robby's methods and the ample amount of resources he is using on Leah, who is too critical to survive. Slowly, Robby understands that he cannot save Leah. Robby stops the CPR and confirms Leah's death.

Robby's emotional breakdown: The Pitt Episode 13 recap

As Robby declares Lea dead and says, "Okay, we are done," out of despair, he is immediately taken to the flashbacks of monitors beeping during the chaotic COVID-19 situation. Robby's trance breaks when Dana interrupts as David (a high school kid and the probable perpetrator) is brought for his medical check-up and interrogation. Robby asks Dana to take Leah's dead body the long way to keep Jake out of it.

Robby then takes Jake to a cabin where he breaks the tragic news of Leah's death. He says,

"Leah's injuries were really serious. She stopped breathing. We put a tube down her throat to deliver oxygen. We were able to drain the blood that was collapsing her lungs. We gave her as much blood as we could. But we were unable to get ahead of the massive bloodless. Her heart stopped. You saw me doing CPR. We did everything we could."

When Jake asked if Leah was dead, with teary eyes, Robby nodded a yes. Jake requested that Robby let him see Leah for the last time, but Robby answered that it would be handed to her parents after the investigation. As Jake begged, Robby took him to see Leah's lifeless body in the victim's room.

Jake broke down after seeing Leah's body and asked Robby whether they had contacted her parents. Unable to bear the trauma and out of guilt, Jake said,

"I got their daughter killed."

When Robby consoled Jake, he questioned why he couldn't save her. Robby continued to get traumatic flashbacks of the COVID-19 days, as Jack kept on blaming him for Leah's death. Robby went on a guilt trance, where he kept on naming all his patients who had died. Unable to cope with his emotions, he removed Jake from the victim's room, broke down, slumping down to the ground, and put his hand on his head out of grief, guilt, and despair.
