The Penguin is a soon-to-be-released American crime drama series. The series will be a spin-off from the film The Batman, released in 2022. As the name suggests, the eight-episode-long series will be based on the DC Comics character, The Penguin.

Penguin is one of Batman's nemesis who refers to himself as the most superior "Gentleman of Crime".

While the villain is mostly depicted as a male character, he was recently portrayed as a female in the series Batman: Caped Crusader.

The Penguin is shown to be the owner of a nightclub called the Iceberg. He is often recognized by his crooked nose, which, along with his short and fat stature, gives rise to a penguin-like resemblance.

Certain key characteristics of Penguin are a top hat and a monocle alongside a high-tech, multi-functional umbrella.

What to expect from The Penguin?

The series zooms into Penguin's corner in the crime-filled depths of Gotham City. The Penguin is set a week into the aftermath of The Batman. The drama will explore the rise of Penguin's power. The executive producer of the series, Matt Reeves, stated:

"I really wanted the story to begin a week after the movie where the Penguin who is completely underestimated grabs for power in this power vaccum"

He further added:

"The way the Penguin functions in The Batman is that he's a little bit of a red herring. What I really wanted to do was build that story out, so that's really the birth of the show"

The Penguin takes a deeper and darker look into the character of Penguin, also known as Oz or Oswald Cobblepot. While Oz only had a few scenes in The Batman, this series gives a 360-degree look into his character.

This includes his origin, his relationship with his mentally ill mother, his motives, and his fight with antagonist Sofia Falcone. Sofia is the daughter of the deceased Carmine Falcone, who was a crime boss.

Carmine's chief lieutenant was Oz, who is now on his way to becoming Gotham's most revered criminal. In the series, Sofia is a psychopathic killer, a former Arkham Asylum patient who aims to defeat Oz and take over Gotham's criminal underbelly.
