All the Easter eggs in episode 2 of The Penguin

1) The Gaea reference

The second episode of The Penguin featured a short segment of Sofia Falcone's interaction with her cousin Carla at Alberto's funeral ceremony. There, she meets Carla's daughter, whom Carla addresses as "Gia."

While Gia seems like a regular name, DC fans know the meaning of "Gaea," which has deep roots in the DC Comics universe.

She is shown as the mother of all life and is worshipped by the Amazons. This is the key reason behind this name drop in the episode, hinting at potential mythological elements that could be woven into future storylines.

2) Umbrella callback

During an intense gunfight, the Penguin shields himself with a simple umbrella. While this seems like a regular move, fans of the DC universe will relate this to Batman and the moment when Penguin rises to become a full-fledged villain.

3) The Maroni crime family

The Maronis is a name familiar to all Batman fans. It is a well-known family in the world of crimes and their involvement in Gotham’s criminal underworld is deep.

The event played a crucial role in Harvey Dent’s turning into Two-Face. This mention of the family in the episode is a potential hint at the tensions getting heated between Maronis and Falcones.

4) Crown Point reference

As the episode of The Penguin moves forward, the family dynamics of the Penguin are also shown. It is revealed that the Penguin came from a rather humble background, and had to live a life of lesser abundance. Along with his two brothers and mother, he lived in the crime-filled, Crown Point.

In various Batman stories, Crown Point is portrayed as a tough area and this could be the key factor shaping Oswald Cobblepot's character as well as his climb to power.
