Following the story crafted by author Matthew Quirk, Netflix's The Night Agent took no time to become one of the biggest action thrillers of 2023. It focuses on young FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), tasked with waiting for a call in the basement of the White House.

Interestingly, the phone rarely rings. And, when it rings you must know it's going to be a thrilling and dangerous adventure. Similarly, when Sutherland receives a call from Rose Larkin, he realizes his job is more than handling phone calls and maintaining reports, as he gets caught up in an unexpected conspiracy.

One of the biggest reasons why fans were intrigued with the moderate storyline of The Night Agent, is that it perfectly blends, politics, romance, murders, and emotional struggles of the characters. The first season was filled with plot twists and turns, and there's still more to come in the upcoming season. Read more to explore which plots can be covered in season 2.

The Night Agent Season 1 ended with certain questions and plots unanswered which can be resolved in the second chapter, set to arrive in winter 2025.

From Peter's new job to how the series will expand beyond the novel, here are the seven plot points to be considered:

1) Expanding the story in Netflix's The Night Agent beyond the novel

One of the biggest questions for dedicated fans is how the creator will reinvent the narrative in The Night Agent Season 2. The first chapter was based on Matthew Quirk's standalone novel and covers all major elements from the book.

However, creator Shawn Ryan did exercise creative liberty to add his touch to the action thriller. It added to the engaging plot of the series, but now many would wonder how Ryan will craft a new story while capturing the true spirit of the novel.

Quirk did write other novels with similar themes like The Night Agent, but they all take place in different worlds and characters. It has now become a challenge to overcome for the Netflix series creator as its success also relies on the narrative.

2) What's in store for Diane Farr in The Night Agent Season 2?

Played by actress Hong Chau, Diane Farr works as the White House chief of staff, known for her loyalty towards the president. However, in a bombshell twist, it is revealed that Farr is the White House mole, who was operating against her own government and leaking information.

Additionally, she's the one who recruited Peter Sutherland for the Night Action program and had a strong work bond with him. However, her role in the assassination attempt on President Travers, and the killings of agents and innocent people puts Farr in a dangerous situation.

Season 1 didn't feature her punishment or trial, which is expected to be explored in the upcoming season as her fate currently remains uncertain. It would be intriguing to watch the outcomes of betraying your best friend and the president.

3) Vice President Redfield's fate after orchestrating the conspiracy

The Night Agent Season 2 must feature Vice President Redfield's punishment after planning most of the conspiracy against the government and eliminating President Michelle Travers. Not only this, but he also attempted to kill Omar Zadar and is behind most of the catastrophic events including the deaths of Rose's uncle and aunt.

He even planted bombs inside the president's helicopter and the Laurel Lodge at Camp David, crossing all his lines which will led to his ultimate downfall. The public must know the traitor, and this can be explored in the new chapter.

4) How did Gordon Wick pay for his crimes?

Peter Sutherland and his allies were able to catch almost every individual behind the conspiracy, except for the puppet master Gordon Wick.

Wick is the most formidable and evil businessman, who didn't even hesitate to threaten Vice President Redfield, with who he carried out the illegal activities.

In the finale of The Night Agent Season 1, when the truth finally comes out, Gordon Wick successfully manages to escape. While everything fell apart, Wick was in control and remained unharmed.

He didn't face the consequences or punishment against his crimes, and season 2 can cover his fate. Ben Cotton can be among the returning cast members for the second chapter as his fate was also kept uncertain.

5) How Peter and Rose will handle their relationship in The Night Agent Season 2?

Apart from the action-drama and conspiracies in The Night Agent, fans also get to see the budding romance between Peter and Rose. The two even shared a kiss at the end of the finale, but Peter's new mission in the upcoming season might put them into a long-distance relationship.

Currently, their future together isn't confirmed, but season 2 can find a way to connect Peter with Rose again. Their relationship was one of the best parts of the action thriller, and fans would always want to see them together.

6) What will be Peter's new mission as a night agent?

Peter Sutherland's journey began as a low-level FBI agent, then assigned a desk job as a phone operator, and finally became a field agent. By the end of season 1, Peter decides to officially take on as a night agent, which means he won't answer the calls, but make them.

It's like stepping into his father's shoes as he was also a night agent who met a tragic end during a mission. Peter is set to carry out his new job, but his mission remains unclear. The finale of The Night Agent did hint at a bigger adventure, but didn't reveal the exact details.

America's relations with the PIF and Omar Zadar will likely be affected, as Vice President Redfield and Gordon Wick planned his assassination. Their actions have made the country's relations with Zadar, fragile and uncertain.

Following the huge government crisis, President Travers is expecting a new cabinet with loyal officials. But, it won't be an easy task as it could directly affect her country's relations with others.
