The Night Agent Season 2 finale saw Catherine revealing a key secret about Peter's father to him after he unwillingly followed in his footsteps.

Peter's partner, Rose, was kidnapped and taken by the terrorists to an unknown location, and Jacob Monroe made a bargain with him. He asked him to steal a confidential file from the UN, and in exchange, he would tell him Rose's location.

While giving Monroe the UN file would be a grave crime against his country, Peter chooses to commit it and save Rose. But he comes clean to Catherine and is ready to face the consequences. While Catherine tells him the truth about his father, she also gives him an opportunity to wipe off his name and set his story for Season 3.

Throughout The Night Agent Season 2, Catherine has a difficult relationship with Peter. While she is his boss, she never fully trusts him, and it is assumed that she thinks of him as inexperienced or lacking what it takes to become a good agent.

But the finale revealed that Catherine did not trust Peter because of his father, because he was a traitor, and she was the one who investigated him all the years back.

She reveals to Peter that his father was identified as a mole in the Pentagon leak, and he betrayed his country. Since she was the agent who investigated his father, she knew everything about his case firsthand, which was why she never fully trusted him.

In an interview with Netflix's Tudum, Amanda Warren discusses this revelation in the Season 2 finale:

“I don't think anybody trusts anybody in the beginning...“Will their relationship evolve into a collegial friendship now? Will it be a friendship that is so beautiful and involved that it becomes familial? There’s a lot of opportunity for that — a lot of hope.”

Catherine and Peter's relationship has evolved at the end of The Night Agent Season 2

At the end of The Night Agent Season 2, Peter and Catherine reach a place in their relationship where they start to evolve as a team. While Peter has come clean about his truce with Monroe, Catherine thinks of this as an opportunity to gain intel on Monroe's relationship with Hagan.

Catherine reveals to Peter that Monroe has a close relationship with Hagan, who is about to be the President. Monroe had prepared himself for the upcoming elections for eight years so that he would enjoy the power once his preferred candidate was made the President.

Patrick Knox was a strong opponent against Hagan, which is why Monroe asked Peter to steal the UN file, which had evidence linking Knox with the Foxglove conspiracy. Peter indirectly eliminated Knox and Hagan's chances of winning strong.

Since Catherine knows that Monroe has a strong relationship with Hagan, she offers Peter the mole against Monroe to gain information about his relationship with Hagan.

Catherine choosing Peter for this task proves that she has started to trust him and see him differently from his father.
