The Mexican comedy series The Manny hit Netflix in 2023 and quickly gained popularity for offering a fresh take on family sitcoms and a diverse representation of caregivers. The series begins with Jimena, a single mother struggling to handle the pressure of advancing her career while also caring for her three children.

Following her challenges, Jimena hires a male caretaker called Gabriel Padilla for her children. Gabriel gradually develops a strong bond with the kids and becomes a key figure in their lives. He doesn't just help the family take care of the three kids but often steps into the family's conflicts to provide emotional support. He quickly becomes a part of the family and a potential romantic angle develops between him and Jimena.

As seen in The Manny Season 1, Jimena's goal is to become the president of her father's company, and by the second season, she has achieved her goal, all thanks to Gabriel's support. However, with a new season comes new challenges for Jimena and Gabriel, especially after the arrival of Matias, Jimena’s new boyfriend.

The Manny Season 2 brings back the fan-favorite Manny Gabriel as he returns to Jimena and her kids after a year, not as a manny but as a rancher. Fans are also introduced to Jimena's seemingly perfect new boyfriend, Matias, as the mother of three seems to have moved on from her feelings for Gabriel.

However, Gabriel still can't deny his feelings, but since Jimena is happy with her new love interest, the former manny prefers to keep it a secret. As Gabriel talks to the youngest kid, Leo, he tells him about suspecting Matias of hiding his true intentions.

Leo was absolutely right! Matias isn't what he seems. As seen in the season 2 finale, "Spiderwebs," Matias is revealed to be Arturo Castelar, a professional thief who teamed up with Jimena’s cousin Rogelio to ruin her.

Rogelio couldn't accept being removed from Jimena's company and planned to sabotage her recent project. He aimed to gain full control with the help of the con artist, but little did Rogelio know that Arturo would double-cross him. He planned to take all the project's money and disappear, leaving everyone in ruins.

As the last episode begins, Brenda informs Jimena and Gabriel that the paperwork submitted by Matias is all false. When Jimena mentions Matias telling her about transferring the money to his account, Gabriel quickly connects the dots and claims that Matias is Arturo Castelar.

At the same time, Brenda confirms that Leo's doubts about Matias being a fraud were right. As the episode progresses, Arturo tries to collect a final deposit from an investigator, Perla Salgado.

It turns out that Perla has sharp instincts, and she manages to outsmart Arturo by offering to pay in cash rather than transferring money. This delay allows Jimena to confront her seemingly innocent boyfriend and expose his lies.

However, Arturo initially denies all claims and threatens Jimena. Fortunately, Gabriel arrived on time, and Perla's men helped secure the scene until the con artist was arrested. Rogelio also shows up and takes responsibility for his evil plan.

Another key plot point in The Manny Season 2 is Jimena's daughter Sofia's relationship with her boyfriend, Abel. She's unable to focus on Abel due to her obsession with her brand, leading Abel to feel ignored.

As seen in the last episode, when Abel asks Sofia about going for ice cream, she doesn't seem to be interested, which upsets Abel. However, he confronts Sofia about her negligence and explains how her work is taking over their relationship. After a conversation, the two reconcile, and Abel makes a timetable for Sofia, which would help her balance her work and relationship.

The most awaited plot point in The Manny Season 2 finally comes in the end as Jimena also realizes her love for Gabriel, who is already in love with her. The two also share the news about their reconciliation with the kids, announcing they are officially a couple.

The family is happy to have Gabriel back, but they must also prepare themselves for the upcoming looming challenge at work after Arturo's fraud caused financial struggles. The season ends on a bittersweet note, making room for more to come in the future.

Sandra Echeverría and Ivan Amozurrutia have been well-received by fans for their performances. Acclaimed writer Carolina Rivera adds another feather to her cap with this show, which has people talking about gender roles. As of now, Netflix has not renewed the show for season 3, and that decision may be made in early 2025.
