The Star Wars spin-off show Andor, which tells the story of the rebellion movement against the Galactic Empire, is one of the more critically acclaimed shows that also has a great fan following. While there have been other shows, such as The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, which garnered much interest, Andor’s existence in the Star Wars universe is an exceptional occasion. Tony Gilroy, creator of Andor, credits the success of The Mandalorian for it. While speaking to Empire, Gilroy said,

“The success of The Mandalorian gave us the platform to jump off… Their success is what would fuel the whole thing. I mean, no Baby Yoda, no Andor. Seriously. Don’t think that we don’t know that.”

Andor is the prequel to the 2016 movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is the prequel to the original Star Wars film. Andor will return with its second and final season on April 22, 2025, on Disney+.

In Season 1, we find Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) working with rebels against the Empire. The season explored the resistance movement from the ground up, giving us a more in-depth look into stories that took place before the fall of the Empire. Gilroy shared that shows like Andor may be a rarity in the future. He said,

“...Not because we’re so great, but because no-one’s ever gonna start a show on this scale again, and shoot it practically, and have the resources and the protection to do something like this. We were protected all the way down the line. Kathy (Kennedy) protected us. Lucasfilm protected us. Bob Iger protected us. The audience protected us. The Mandalorian protected us. We had all these people out there backing our play.”

What to expect in Season 2 of Andor?

Cassian Andor and the Rebel Alliance are going full throttle to take down the Empire. This season will lead the story up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Orson Krennic (played by Ben Mendelsohn) reprises his role from Rogue One as the main villain as Cassian prepares for a showdown with the leader. In the trailer, we also get a glimpse of the construction of the Death Star. The rebel forces and allies are now on the war path as Cassian marches on guns blazing (or blaster blazing!).

Gilroy teased about the upcoming season,

“…What happens to their love affairs? Their relationships? Their homes? Their children? What happens to everything around them, if you’re thrust into this vice-grip of revolution? Those are the big tectonic moves of the second season.”

As per the official synopsis of Andor Season 2,

“Andor” Season 2 will see the characters and their relationships intensify as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound.

Andor Season 2 will comprise of 12 action filled episodes. The final season will premiere on April 22, 2025, on Disney+ with three episodes.
