The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 premiered on April 27, 2025, and there's a lot to take in from this episode. Even though it feels like the world should've stopped after Joel's death in Episode 2, the show must go on. In The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3, Dina gets sick and vomits after she and Ellie encounter a cult group, including a little girl, dead on their journey to Chicago.
The fact that an experienced soldier from Jackson, such as Dina, got sick after coming across a few dead bodies stood out noticeably to fans in this episode. Dina explains that it must be the smell or the sight of the bodies, but her explanation is shaky at best.
Here's what Dina getting sick in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 might mean.
Why did Dina get sick in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3?

In The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3, Dina and Ellie set out for Seattle to hunt Abby, three months after she killed Joel. The decision comes in the wake of the Jackson council's decision not to send a 16-person squad to get justice for Joel's death. On the way, they encounter a cult, who are referred to as the Seraphites in the game, dead just outside of the city.
On seeing the dead bodies, which also included a little girl, Dina gets sick and starts vomiting. She explained to Ellie that this was the first time something like this had happened, and it must be the smell or sight of the dead bodies. Ellie takes Dina's explanation without a blink and doesn't give it much thought. However, fans were not as quick to disregard this detail in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3.
The reason why fans did not take Dina at her word is that in The Last of Us Part II game, which the season is adapted from, Dina gets pregnant with Jesse's baby. So, Dina throwing up after seeing the dead bodies, particularly one of a little girl, might be the show's attempt at setting up Dina's pregnancy.
Dina has been living in the Jackson community for years. She has survived the infection so far, and she went on patrols regularly, meaning she has definitely seen dead bodies of far greater numbers before.

Additionally, when Dina came to meet Ellie and give her the information about the WLF, which she initially kept to herself, she adjusted her shirt before Ellie came out, as if she was trying to cover something or was uncomfortable.
Joel and Ellie's home is one of the more comfortable spaces for Dina, as we've seen her with Joel in episode 1, so it doesn't make sense that she would be uncomfortable there. She might've been uncomfortable because she knew her information would make Ellie angry, but seeing how she dealt with Ellie, with the help of cookies, makes it clear that she knew exactly how that conversation would go.

Dina also revealed in a conversation between her and Ellie that she got back together with Jesse after their kiss on New Year's Eve. Putting all of this in line with the perspective that Dina gets pregnant with Jesse in the game, makes it seem like The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 was full of crumbs setting up Dina's pregnancy.
If The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 is following the timeline of The Last of Us Part II, then there is a very high possibility that these actions from Dina might've been setting up her pregnancy for the upcoming episodes of Season 2.
