Based on the video game by Naughty Dog, HBO's The Last Of Us was renewed for season 2, which will premiere in April 2025.
Starring Pedro Pascal in the lead role, the story follows Joel Miller, a drug smuggler who is tasked to transport Ellie, a teenager who might be humanity's last saving grace against the mass fungal infection. The infection causes the host to turn into a zombie and has already wiped out half of America's population.
Ellie is immune to the virus, which might be the key to creating a vaccine for the disease. According to HBO,
The Last of Us Season 2 will take place five years after the events of Season 1, where the community has adapted to live in a post-apocalyptic world.

Pascal's Joel will return with Ellie in The Last of Us Season 2
Chilean actor Pedro Pascal is a famous actor who needs no introduction. With his breakthrough role in HBO's Game of Thrones, this is the second time he plays a protective father figure after the Star Wars series The Mandalorian. His other credits include Netflix's Narcos and the recent movie Gladiator II.
Pascal plays the titular character of Joel Miller in The Last of Us, who adapts to post-apocalyptic America while keeping her daughter Ellie safe. After learning that her daughter might hold the key to the virus' cure, Joel is forced to make some harsh decisions in season 2.
Bella Ramsey will also reprise her role as Ellie, a teen who is prone to the Cordyceps infection and might be the key to its cure. She is a confident and fierce young woman who might be humanity's savior in season 2.
Ramsey, like Pascal, also starred in HBO's Games of Thrones. Her other works include The Worst Witch and His Dark Materials.
While it is not yet confirmed which other actors will reprise their roles in season 2, Gabriel Luna's Tommy Miller and Rutina Wesley's Maria Miller are expected to return.
