Episode 9 marked the abrupt conclusion of David Kinne's Survivor 48 journey, but he isn't leaving without making amends. David talked candidly about the strategic blindside and the areas where things went wrong, especially with Joe, one of his closest allies, in a post-elimination interview. Although David was caught off guard during Tribal Council in the episode, his departure was motivated by a deeper sense of letdown. After assuming he had Joe's word, he discovered that faith had been misplaced.

"I think he truly thought that he didn’t go back on his word when he did. That’s the only issue I had with Joe in that moment," David said, emphasizing that the betrayal didn’t feel intentional, but it still hurt.

Although he appreciated Joe's gameplay, David acknowledged that their misunderstandings were expensive. He thought their alliance would carry them far into the game, therefore, he had relied on it. Rather, it signaled the start of his demise.

David, however, has no resentment. Despite the blindside, he remained loyal to his principles in a game that is sometimes characterized by dishonesty, and he is pleased with the way he competed. Fans were left wondering what may have happened if Joe had fulfilled his promise as he gracefully left with his torch extinguished.

David reflects on his alliance with Joe

After Joe and Eva switched their votes in Survivor 48 Episode 9, David Kinne was eliminated, raising concerns about shifting allegiances. Thinking back on the incident, David revealed that he had trusted Joe because of several exchanges in which specific assurances were given. David remarked,

"He also promised he would never vote me out. He promised on his kids he would never vote me out, and here I am."

He also acknowledged that addressing the issue may not have been the most strategic move.

“It probably wasn’t the best thing to say at the moment… Would it have changed anything? I don’t know,” David admitted.

Despite the outcome, he spoke respectfully of Joe, calling him “an incredible father” and someone he looks up to outside of the game. However, David maintained that within the context of Survivor, there were moments where he felt commitments were not followed through as expected.
