The Irrational Season 2 saw a new cast member join Alec's team and help him solve cases.
The show follows Alex Mercer, a professor of behavioral psychology whose interests lie in human behavioral patterns, especially irrationality. He uses his study to help the FBI solve high-stakes murder cases.
Max Lloyd-Jones stars as Simon in Season 2. Rizwan brings him in to replace Phoebe on Alec's team. Simon has his own motives, too. He wants to understand his brother's death with the help of Alec's study and has joined the team.
Simon Wylton isn't just a newcomer to Alec's team. He is a member of the Wylton family, the patrons of Wylton University, where Alex teaches. This also makes Simon a family friend of Alec.
More on Simon's entry into Alec's team in our story.
Simon Wylton joins Alec's team in The Irrational Season 2
Phoebe's departure was expected to be permanent, and Rizwan brought Simon in as a replacement.
Simon is quick to notice that his 'boss' Alec is their family friend, but he understands that he has a student-mentee relationship with him inside this space.
Jones talks with Cinemablend about Simon's relationship with Alec in an interview,
''Obviously there's a different dynamic, as Alec is the boss, but also a family friend of sorts of Simon.''
He further adds,
''When we first see that they meet each other, he calls him Alec, and then realizes, 'Oh, you're the professor here. I have to adjust my relationship.' So I think there's an intimidation there, of course, with Alec being world-renowned at what he does.''
He also discusses Simon's adamant attitude toward proving himself to the team. He doesn't want them to think of him as just a replacement for Phoebe; he wants to create his own space within Alec's team in The Irrational.
In addition, Simon also has a personal motive to join Alec's team. He opens up with Rizwan about how his brother died by suicide years ago. Since then, he has been obsessed with suicide and wanted to help people by studying behavioral patterns.
''Simon is obsessed with understanding this phenomenon of suicide and human behavior, essentially, as he experienced something so jarring.''
He further added,
''...there's a great hunger to understand that so maybe he can help the next person and that his work going forward could save a life where he wasn't able to.''
Who plays Simon on The Irrational? Max Lloyd-Jones on working with Jesse L. Martin on the show
Max Lloyd-Jones is best known for his work on The Mandalorian, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Woman of the Hour. Recently, he has appeared on When Calls the Heart.
He was excited to join Alec's team and worked alongside Jesse L. Martin, who has worked in most episodes of Law & Order and had a crucial role in The Flash.
''Anyone that spoke about working with Jesse, it always seemed to be a learning experience, and he provides a very amiable and relaxed atmosphere on set. And that was what I think I noticed the most, and I respect the most about him.''
