Following the events of its first chapter, The Irrational Season 1 premiered in September 2023 and was soon greenlit by NBC after its success and notable cliffhanger at the end.
Alec Mercer's unique way of analyzing human behavior not only helps in solving crimes but also shows how beliefs and biases affect an individual's decisions.
Season 1 was well-received by fans and ended by revealing the mastermind behind the church bombing, Bob Caswith. Not only this, but Caswith was also behind Jace's death, who planned the bombing to hide the truth about Natalie's death.
When viewers might have thought that the first season would conclude with the revelation of the bombing, it gave them an unexpected cliffhanger. In the finale, Alec Mercer's girlfriend Rose Dinshaw is abducted and put into a van.
