Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale finally kicked off its final and sixth season with the first three episodes, which were released on April 8, 2025.

While Season 6 will mark the conclusion of June Osborne's quest to find freedom from Gilead's patriarchal laws, her story will likely get a positive resolution.

When Season 6 kicks off, June surprisingly meets her mother, Holly, who is alive, but moments after, she leaves her again to find her husband, Luke, who has once again joined the Mayday resistance group.

On the other hand, Nick is back at his pretend life with his wife, Rose, who is pregnant. Made the Mayor of New Bethlehem, Commander Lawrence's dream project, which he claims is different from Gilead. But in reality, women are made s*x slaves to powerful men in the new community, too.

While it looks like Nick has finally made peace with his new life, he is reunited with June, who asks for help in rescuing Luke from No Man's Land.

Here is the recap of The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episodes 1-3.

Breakdown and main events in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 1

The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 1 sees June Osborne after she has finally escaped from Gilead and is on a train bound for Vancouver with her daughter Nicole (whom she earlier had with Nick). The train is taking the refugee women to a new world so that they can start their lives afresh.

On the train, June meets Serena and her baby Noah, and while the latter appears to be hospitable towards her, June cannot trust the late commander's wife. The two women start to talk, and Serena urges June to show her wounds to a doctor onboard, who recognizes Serena.

Soon, Serena's identity is outed in the train, and angry women launch at her, holding her responsible for being an accomplice to the brutalities they suffered. Serena and her baby are serenaded by the angry mob until June interferes and throws the mother-son duo out of the moving train to save them.

As promised, the train does not go to Vancouver but stops in Alaska, where June and Nicole meet the former's mother, Holly, who works as a nurse in a nearby camp.

Breakdown and main events in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 2

The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 2 introduced us to Commander Lawrence's dream project, New Bethlehem, an experimental community he claimed had fair laws for women. He motivated the refugee women to settle there.

Serena saw New Bethlehem as a new community where she could save all these fallen women like June, and the idea excited her, and she dreamed of starting a new life there.

Meanwhile, after reuniting with her mother, Holly, June is determined to find her husband, Luke, and Moira. But when he fails to show up at the Alaska camp, she learns that the duo had joined the Mayday resistance group to fight against Gilead. She vows to rescue her husband from there, with Nick's help.

After she tells Holly about a commander who would help her locate Luke and Moira, Holly says that Nick would also be no different than other Gilead people. However, June leaves his daughter with Holly and sets off to find Luke.

Breakdown and main events in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 3

June meets with Mark to get Luke and Moira out of No Man's Land. Mark says that only Nick could help them out, as he is the new community's mayor and would definitely come to June's aid because he still deeply loves her.

As expected, Nick comes when June needs her the most. After their reunion, she asks for his help rescuing Luke and Moira, and after some hesitation, he agrees. They learn that Luke and Moira are hiding at a gift shop in a waterpark, and the duo agrees to go there at night.

While approaching the gift shop, Nick and June discuss how they will always love each other but cannot be together because of their commitment to Rose and Luke, respectively.

They finally find Luke and Moira at the gift shop, but the Guardians arrive, and they are hellbent on reporting the entire matter when Nick shoots them to death. Nick finally takes Luke, Moira, and June to safety, where he hands them over to Mark, who will take them to Alaska.

Nick and June part again, but she doesn't bid him farewell this time, promising that their lives are forever bound together.
