After a wait of over two years, The Handmaid's Tale is coming back with its 6th and final season. Based on Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel of the same name, the Hulu series tells “the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States.”

With 10 episodes in total, The Handmaid's Tale season 6 will offer answers to the lingering questions from season 5, especially the ones involving June and Serena Joy. The official synopsis for season 6 reads:

"June (Elisabeth Moss) fights to take down Gilead as Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) join the resistance. Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) reckon with what they have wrought, and Nick (Max Minghella) faces challenging tests of character.”

It further mentions:

“This final chapter of June’s journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.”

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 is premiering on April 8, 2025 with the first 3 episodes dropping together. From the fourth episode, the show will follow a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping every Tuesday. More on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6

Elisabeth Moss returns as June Osborne / Offred in the final chapter of The Handmaid’s Tale and in a conversation with Variety, she said,

“I hope that she gives courage to somebody who needs it, whether it’s in our country or another country. She’s somebody that people can hopefully look up to. She’s very brave, and I look up to her.”

Talking about how it ends, Madeline Brewer, who plays the character of Janine Lindo told Variety,

“It goes a little wild there toward the end, and I think it’s what the fans have been waiting six seasons for — they’ve been waiting for revolution. We had a long resistance, we had a lot of building and building and really a slow burn to what is an outrageous revolution, truly, in the end.”

The Handmaid’s Tale can be streamed on Hulu.
