The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 cast and character guide: Meet the new and returning actors in the final installment of the dystopian series

After much anticipation, The Handmaid’s Tale’s final season has arrived. The sixth season of the hit series premieres on Hulu on April 8, 2025 with three episodes. While many of the main and supporting characters will return to the show, several new faces also join the last installment of The Handmaid’s Tale.

The series, which is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s 1986 novel The Handmaid’s Tale follows the stories of women in the dystopian world of Gilead, where ‘Handmaids’ are forced to bear children for the Commanders who rule the totalitarian regime. The show is created by Bruce Miller. At the end of last season, June gets on a refugee train with Nicole and meets Serena on it. Season 6 of The Handmaid’s tale will comprise of 10 episodes.

Elisabeth Moss plays June Osborne – The protagonist of the show, in the world of Gilead she went by the name Offred. She faces several hardships through the series, but at the end of season 5, she escapes Gilead and is working to bring down the Republic.

Yvonne Strahovski plays Serena Joy Waterford – As the wife of Commander Fred Waterford, she initially believed in the ideologies of Gilead and strictly abided by the rules. However, now her loyalties are stretched between two worlds.

Max Minghella plays Commander Nick Blaine – Former driver of the Waterford’s, he is now a commander who had a romantic relationship with June. The relationship still looms over him.

Bradley Whitford plays Commander Joseph Lawrence - A Gileadean commander whose loyalties are flawed. He continues to rise in the political world of Gilead. His true intensions however remains unclear.

O-T Fagbenle plays Luke Bankole – June’s husband who got separated from his wife when Gilead was formed. He gets arrested at the end of season 5, casting a doubt on a possible reunion between the two.

Madeline Brewer plays Janine Lindo – A handmaid who goes by the names Ofwarren, Ofdaniel and Ofhoward in Gilead. At the end of the last season, she is captured by the Eyes.

Samira Wiley plays Moira Strand – A friend of June, who manages to escape Gilead and is now working with the rebellion forces.

Ann Dowd plays Aunt Lydia – She is responsible for guiding the handmaids in Gilead. She now works with Commander Lawrence to build the regime.

Sam Jaeger plays Mark Tuello - A US government delegate who is working with the refugees from Gilead as he walks through the unpredictable poitical landcape of the dystopian world.

Amanda Brugel plays Rita Blue - A Martha who escapes Gilead and starts a new life. She may be forced to fight against Gilead in the upcoming season.

Ever Carradine will play Naomi Lawrence – She marries Commander Lawrence in Season 5 and has adopted Janine’s child.

There are also a few characters that have been left for viewers to find out. And while we don't have the details on their characters, we know who will be playing those roles. The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 cast will also feature the following actors:

Timothy Simons in unknown guest role.

D'Arcy Carden in unknown guest role.
