The Great British Bake Off 2024 announced the third home baker to bid farewell to the White Tent in the latest episode on Tuesday, October 8. John Mincher, the Star Baker from Cake Week put his best skills on the table in Bread Week.

Episode 3 tested the bakers on their creativity, technique, and hands-on savory treats. Like every other week, this week's challenge was also theme-based: knead the dough for the perfect 'Bread'.

In Week 3, 'Bread Week', bakers were as usual put through all three stages. For the Signature challenge, they had baked Savory Buns. In the Technical round, just with the help of Iive demonstration, bakers had to prepare a Seven-Strand Plaited Wreath.

Finally, for the Showstopper round, Judges expected a Cornucopian Display of Breads.

For John, the week did not go very well. His Savory Buns were missing the texture according to Paul and Prue. He could not make a comeback in either the Technical or Showstopper round, accepting that luck was not in his favor.

Noel Fielding announced that John Mincher would no longer continue his journey in the White Tent, leaving him Teary-eyed.

Episode 3 of The Great British Bake Off 2023 premiered at 8 pm ET/PT on Channel 4.

The Great British Bake Off 2024 Week 3: Elimination, Star Baker, and more

The Great British Bake Off 2024 Week 3 witnessed one more baker pack their bags and go home. John Mincher, the 37-year-old baker from West Midlands was the third baker, after Hazel and Jeff, to get eliminated from the show.

Mincher was awarded the Star Baker in episode 1, Cake Week for his excellent cake fakery that impressed the judges. But unfortunately, his journey was cut short, and he kind of saw it coming.

After Noel announced the elimination, John was disheartened but also proud of himself for scoring the tag of Star Baker in the very first episode of the show. He said,

"It's fine – it was expected, It was just a bad week. It's just how it is. Because everybody is so talented, if you drop the ball it's your time to go. To be the first Star Baker of the series, and then have a really good week with biscuits, the tears are tears of pride."

John Mincher started his baking journey to honor her grandmother's memories, who taught him some of his first bakes. John had a keen interest in experimenting with flavors and believed in combining the classics with the modern. His span on The Great British Bake Off 2024 was short but sweet.

Who was awarded the Star Baker in episode 3, Bread Week?

Week 3 of The Great British Bake Off introduced the home bakers with a bread-baking challenge. It might sound simple, but the judges made sure to test the bakers religiously.

For the Technical round, Paul Hollywood, known for his bread-baking skills, posed the challenge of 'Watch and Bake'. Dylan managed to bake his way through all the challenges and was awarded the Star Baker.

Dylan baked Gochujang & Garlic Savoury Buns for his first challenge, and to his surprise, received the famous 'Handshake' by Paul, who noted that he had tasted those flavors for the first time.

In the Technical round, however, he did not do his best, scoring the lowest points. However, with his 'Cat Cornucopia' Dylan won over the judges.

Both Paul and Prue admired the flavor, texture, and his creative whipped bone marrow. Paul also complemented his expensive-looking donuts and said:

"The standard he took it to has been exceptional.'

The 20-years-od Retail Assistant from Buckinghamshire from The Great British Bake Off was surprised by the recognition and said:

"I’ll remember this week in particular for a long time.’

The Great British Bake Off 2024 airs every Tuesday at 8 pm ET/PT on Channel 4. The US fans can watch the fresh episodes every Friday on Netflix.
