The Glass Dome is a riveting Nordic Noir thriller on Netflix. Originally known as Glaskupan, Netflix's The Glass Dome is adapted from an original story written by the popular Swedish author and screenwriter Camilla Läckberg, who is widely celebrated for the crime novel series titled Fjällbacka. The Glass Dome focuses on Lejla Ness, who is a criminologist who is forced to return to her home in Granas, Sweden, following a recent incident that harkens back to one of her own personal tragedies.

Apart from the story and the performances, The Glass Dome has also garnered praise for its choice of locations. Here's everything that we know.

The Glass Dome: Filming Locations revealed

As is true for any acclaimed Nordic Noir series, the atmosphere comes to play a determining part in establishing the verisimilitude and also drives the mystery narrative forward in a substantial way. This is true in the case of The Glass Dome as well, since the production team behind the Netflix show was careful to choose such locations that would blend in effortlessly with the story. Keep reading to learn more.

1) San Diego

The Geisel Library, located at 9701 Hopkins Drive, La Jolla, San Diego, California, is the only location used in the show that isn't in the country of Sweden. The cast and crew travel overseas to film the library owing to its remarkably angular and futuristic architecture. In terms of the story, this is where Lejla works in the present before she is summoned back to her Swedish home village.

2) Älvdalen

Located at the heart of northeastern Sweden, Älvdalen offered the production team numerous viable locations that will establish a grim and dreary tone in the show's narrative. The proverbial cold light of day in this region of the world accentuates feelings of despondence, along with the heavily wooded environs that naturally permeate a sense of mystery and intrigue.

Salong 106 is the name of a salon located in the region that was used for filming the show and has its name changed to Klippiga Bergen in the story. Similarly, the local architecture and streets were filmed to a great degree, with the crew often congregating in front of Morin's bakery located nearby.

3) Stockholm

Gamla Stan is the name of an ancient town located at the heart of Stockholm that has existed since the 13th century. It is in this neighborhood that the production team of the Netflix show filmed several scenes. Stockholm presented the creators of the show with a unique possibility of offering both medieval and modern architecture at once, thus making the visual tapestry of the show much more immersive. Apart from expository shots and wide angles, the interior scenes were filmed at soundstage studios in the city.

The Glass Dome is available for streaming exclusively on Netflix.
