Recently, Netflix has seen a surge in Swedish thrillers, and if you are also looking for a slow-paced crime series, The Glass Dome might be perfect for you.

The series follows Lejla, a woman who recently returned to her small hometown of Granås from the US. Valter, a police officer, raised Lejla, as she was abducted when young and her biological mother was killed.

Soon, Lejla's past came knocking on her door as she discovered her best friend dead in the bathtub and her young daughter Alicia missing.

Lejla is certain that Alicia's disappearance is somehow related to her own from years ago, so she helps Valter and his brother, Tomas, in the investigation.

In The Glass Dome finale, Lejla is finally able to find Alicia and unmask her kidnapper, who is revealed to be none other than Valter.

More on The Glass Dome finale in our story.

Lejla finds Alicia's kidnapper in The Glass Dome finale

Throughout The Glass Dome, Lejla is constantly reminded of her own abduction years ago while she is working on Alicia's case. She suspects multiple people who could be Alicia's kidnapper, but little did she know that the kidnapper was so closely related to her.

First, she suspects Louise's husband of abducting his own daughter and even suspects a strange man who was working on Louise's roof. Finally, her investigation brings her to Tomas, the lead investigator on the case, and she thinks that Alicia's kidnapper has been found at last.

In the series finale, she finds herself trapped inside the dome and sees a masked man approaching her.

She begs' Tomas' to let Alicia go. Finally, the man removes his mask, and Lejla is shocked to see Valter, her adoptive father, behind it.

The Glass Dome ending explained- here's why Valter abducted young girls

While Lejla is reeling from the truth about Valter's actual identity, he reveals that he was the one who abducted her all those years ago, after killing her biological mother, Milena.

As a child, his mother never valued Valter, and he was a neglected child. Their mother only favored Tomas in front of Valter, which created abandonment issues for him from a young age. They eventually developed a need to control everything.

In The Glass Dome, Walter preyed on young girls who longed for a father figure in their lives. He wanted to become their protector and dominate them.

He would kidnap and keep them in a glass dome to be their protector. As revealed by Valter, he saw something different in Lejla, so after he kidnapped her, he eventually adopted her as a final act and attempt to exert dominance over her.

Alicia and Lejla were saved in The Glass Dome

While Lejla was trapped with Alicia inside The Glass Dome, Tomas was looking for them. He suspects that something is wrong, and he goes to Valter's house to ask him about his daughter's disappearance.

He is also shocked to learn that his brother was involved in the kidnappings and confronts him about the same. Two gunshot sounds are heard, and Tomas is seen rescuing Lejla and Alicia from Valter's house.

The final moments of the show revealed that Valter was not dead, as he was shown in a prison in a wheelchair, where Lejla came to visit him. This hints that Tomas shot his brother in the leg.

Lejla asks her adoptive father about the whereabouts of his other victims. She and Tomas find many young girls' dead remains in the river, suggesting that Valter had many other victims.
