Hulu's latest true crime docu-series, The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer, premiered on February 18, 2025, and is a re-investigation into the murders of the 1990s.
In the 1990s, Indianapolis businessman Herbert Richard Baumeister was suspected of at least 25 killings, whose remains were found buried in his 18-acre property in Westfield, Indiana.
The police found 10,000 bone samples scattered around his Fox Hollow farms that linked Herbert to these killings. The police were able to identify at least eight men, and they were all of the same age and were gay.
A new investigation in The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer will explore the identities of his victims and how a survivor tipped the police and helped them track Herbert, who had already committed suicide before the police could arrest him.

What is Hulu's latest docu-series, The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer about?
After the police failed to find the missing men in the 1990s, their loved ones hired private investigators, who all linked the missing men to gay bars, where they were last spotted. The original investigations all linked them back to Herbert's farms, where the police found bone fragments, which matched with many men who were reported missing.
The Hulu documentary, The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer, follows Hamilton County Coroner Jeff Jellison as he starts a new investigation decades after the murder.
Since many of those bone remains are still unidentified, Jellison curated a team of highly skilled forensics and investigators who employed modern methods of DNA mapping to identify Herbert's victims.
In an interview with ABC News, Jellison discussed his recent initiative:
"We have 10,000 bone and bone fragments. Well, to put it into perspective, this is the second-largest number of unidentified human remains in this country. I made this big plea going public with this investigation. And attempting to identify the remains. If you have someone missing please let us know. We'll get a DNA swab from you. We'll get that entered into the missing person database."
Herbert is a lesser-known serial killer than the likes of Jeffery Dahmer, but his crime is just as grave. Jellison's new investigation might finally provide answers to the grieving families who are still looking for closure for their loved ones.
The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer will feature a never-seen-before witness

In addition to new archival footage and interviews with original investigators who inspected Herbert's farms, The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer will also feature a never-seen-before key witness, who will face the camera for the first time concerning this case.
The witness, Mark Goodyear, is a Herbert survivor who helped the police initially to track down the serial killer.
While Goodyear's account has changed many times, he claims to have met Herbert as Brain at a gay bar, after which he urged him to come to his place, which had a pool and a bar.
Goodyear revealed that Herbert's place was filled with mannequins, which created a weird environment, and as time passed, he became more and more suspicious (via ABC News):
"I knew something was strange about him already. I wouldn't take a cocktail from him. He was trying to get me to drink or whatever. So, I went to the bathroom with the cocktail. Dumped it out. Rinsed the glass. Came back with a glass of water."
He added:
"There were several different attempts there with, like I said, a tie, a belt. He had a fascination with strangulation. I, I do believe that if I had been severely under the influence that he probably would have went further with me. Leading me to believe that he has done this before. I don't even know if he's a murderer. My assumption is that he is."
