Netflix has dropped the first official images from The Waterfront, and it’s already clear: this isn’t just another family drama. Set in a coastal town in North Carolina, the series promises a gritty, emotional dive into the lives of the Buckley family.

Their once-great fishing empire threatens to implode. With secrets, addiction, and power struggles simmering beneath the surface. These new images suggest the chaos, tension, and heartbreak that are yet to come.

As for the release date, The Waterfront is scheduled to come out on Netflix on June 19, 2025. The streamer will make all eight episodes available on the day of the premiere, making it perfect for binge-watching.

Creator Kevin Williamson shed light on his upcoming drama and explained how the Buckley family aims to find a solution that isn't perfect but is "lesser evil" during their downfall:

"It’s just about a bunch of people who make mistakes. They do some bad things and then they get in deeper and deeper and deeper."

Williamson continued:

"Sometimes they keep making worse mistakes and sometimes they find their way out and do the good thing."

In simple terms, the TV series will highlight how the titular family will deal with the worst possible situation uniquely. So, whether you're in it for the drama, the cast, or the haunting seaside aesthetic, The Waterfront is shaping up to be a must-watch.

Summer is fast approaching, and so is the new series The Waterfront on Netflix. As the title suggests, the story unfolds against the glimmering sea and coastal views, which will transport viewers to a world that feels like a salty breeze on a sunny day.

As previously mentioned, Netflix has released the first look at photos of the series featuring the main characters from the Buckley family and their world. The creator teased:

"We have the beautiful sailboats, the yachts, and the fishing trawlers. We have the whole world here. It’s the beautiful side of the business and the commercial side of it."

However, it's not just about the beauty of the place but all kinds of drama that unfolds. The above picture featuring Jake Weary, Holt McCallany and a few men is suggesting a gritty tone and power dynamic at play.

Another picture featuring Jake Weary, Danielle Campbell, and Melissa Benoist as the Buckleys hints at a solemn moment. It looks like they may be hiding secrets behind their unified front.

The story kicks off with the Buckley empire already in a fragile state. The family's head, Harlan Buckley, suffered two heart attacks, forcing him to step back from the business. Since Harlan's health doesn't allow him to take control like before, his wife and son try to make things better.

However, instead of finding a solution to their gradual downfall, Harlan's wife and son end up making wrong decisions. At the same time, his daughter Bree is trying hard to stay clean and restart her life.

Like most of the Buckleys, Bree also finds herself in a complicated situation that could bring even more trouble to the already shaky family dynamic. This way, the Netflix series raises one big question: To what lengths will people go to protect their family’s name and legacy?

Don't miss out on watching The Waterfront on Netflix on June 19, 2025.
