The Polish political thriller series The Eastern Gate Season 2 is currently under development at Max. Season 1 of The Eastern Gate follows the story of Polish spy Ewa Oginiec, who decides to start over in the Secret Service after a personal hurdle. She is on the quest to find her partner, who vanishes after Russian intelligence reveals the agent’s identity. The show is immersed in international espionage and the implications of world politics.

Eberhardt shared about the political drama,

“No matter if it is crime, thriller or costume drama, we always want to make sure this is the story that resonates with the audience and addresses their fears or emotions. We want to be in the conversation. The Eastern Gate exceeded all our expectations to that end.”

What to expect in Season 2 of The Eastern Gate?

The Eastern Gate Season 2 will likely take cues from real-life political events from around the world. Eberhardt shared that though the story was in development five years ago, many of the events that were meant to be fictional became a part of reality. She said,

“It really was very much fiction then, but two years later, the whole world realized it’s not fiction anymore. It’s just brutal reality.”

She shared about the story development,

“….come up with a story that is very important to people, but does not exaggerate how much this could happen in reality”
