Following the release of American Murder: Gabby Petito on Netflix, Brian Laundrie's parents' attorney Steven Bertolino has come forward with a response. Per The Sun, Bertolino said:

"One perspective depicted as the 'truth' as seen through their lens. Similar to Republicans and Democrats fighting it out lately. Each side believes their perspective is correct. Hard to see through the lens of the other with all the noise and distrust."

Bertolino emphasized that Brian Laundrie's parents never gave inconsistent statements and they stand by it.

The attorney admitted that Brian was responsible for Gabby Petito's death followed by committing suicide. Though he didn't mention specific scenes or details from American Murder: Gabby Petito, but urged people to allow both families to grieve in peace.

As previously mentioned, American Murder: Gabby Petito deeply explores what happened between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie during their trip. The docuseries begins with Episode 1 We Bought a Van, which depicts how the cops noticed Gabby crying inside the car. She explained, at the time that she argued with Brian.

Despite initial red flags, the authorities didn't separate the two, and the trip continued until Gabby went missing. When her parents didn't hear from the young vlogger, they became deeply concerned about her whereabouts.

American Murder: Gabby Petito highlights an extensive search for Gabby Peetito until her dead body was discovered in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. At first, it seemed like an accident, but the autopsy report confirmed Gabby was choked to death.

Brian Laundrie also unexpectedly disappeared his remains were found in a Florida nature reserve.

As shown in the last episode Burn After Reading, the investigators could only find the remains of Laundrie's dead body as it was completely decomposed. He died from a gunshot to his head, and the authorities even found a plastic bag filled with pictures of him and Gabby.

Brian had also left several letters to his family, and one of them read:

"I have killed myself by this creek in the hopes that the animals will tear me apart. That it may make some of her family happy."

Brian Laundrie's letter felt like he wrote a story as he mentioned finding Gabby in unbearable pain after rescuing her. He mentioned that it was Gabby who asked him to end her pain, and as a result, he killed her.

The letter reads:

"This was an unexpected tragedy... I found her breathing barely, gasping... begging for an end to her pain. I ended her life. I thought it was merciful. But from the moment I decided to take her pain away, I knew I couldn't go on without her."

Gabby Petito's parents Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt were heartbroken to learn about her fate and what Brian did to her. However, they have "forgiven Brian" as Gabby would have done the same.
