Episode 7 of The Day of The Jackal brought a riveting turn of events, unraveling the calculated moves of the enigmatic assassin and his complicated relationship with Rasmus. As the Jackal edges closer to his ultimate mission, the emotional and strategic interplay takes center stage, setting up a thrilling crescendo.
Why Did the Jackal Meet Rasmus In The Day of The Jackal?
Meanwhile, the seventh episode explores the calculated effort of Jackal to contact Rasmus, a worker at Konsterdisaal, where UDC is set to launch its much-anticipated software. Jackal understood the essence of Rasmus to gain access to the building he wanted to enter. He was spending his time indulging Rasmus in false friendship, using the emotional torture of his pod; Jackal knew one day it would take an underhanded turn.
Rasmus has no suspicion of the deadly motives of the Jackal, not wanting to agree to take him to a venue just because the concert is coming up, and the Jackal's conscience is again at ease even when these acts are in violation of the trust of Rasmus and perhaps his very own moral compass. While he twists Rasmus around his finger, the Jackal wants everything else - his troubled and terrible past and those odds against him. Thus, the intelligence community surveys several vulnerabilities in his character.
When the Jackal later made his last tour of the venue, he tactically marked a place for himself in preparation for the assassination attempt. His cool, calm, and collected nature was, however, jeopardized when Rasmus, like many other people, identified him amid the chaos of the event, culminating in a showdown. To save himself from exposure, Jackal makes the hardest decision killing Rasmus, which substantiates his callous resolve.
Chaos at the Event: A Surprise Attack on UDC
Tension reigned supreme when the UDC finally came to the Konsterdisaal, warning that it was apparently haunted by an assassin on the hunt. The Jackal set himself up in the air vents of the building for the execution of his mission. As he dialed in on UDC, however, two unidentified figures charged onto the stage guns blazing.
It sent Jackal's meticulous plans into a tailspin. UDC was kept safe by his security detail while one of the gunmen was killed with the other having vanished into the hysteria of the crowd. Curiously, neither Zina nor her people seemed to have anything to do with such a supplementary attack, requiring speculation about the identities of these attackers and what they had in common with UDC's inner circle.
Extending the narrative of the episode was the suggestion of betrayals yet to come. UDC's associate, relentless in pushing for the holding of the show despite the threats, became eligible as a suspect with ulterior motives for that action. Also, the theft of cash by Nuria's brother from Jackal's safe added intrigue to the situation, hinting that cracks had begun to develop in the assassin's inner circle.
What Lies Ahead for the Jackal?
What had brought murder to Rasmus, therefore the episode ended with the Jackal dashing out of the venue. This decision, cold as it was, pointed at the increasing isolation of the Jackal, with trust now becoming a luxury too expensive for him to afford.
Even as the show progresses with its intricately woven patterns in narration, the viewer is left guessing who masterminded the surprise ambush and whether the Jackal can pick himself up after being betrayed so often. With the stakes being the highest, the assassin's journey promises much more disclosure with moral dilemmas.
Stay tuned to find out who was behind the unexpected ambush and how the Jackal maneuvers through this self-inflicted fallout in the next episode.
