A new TV series for suspense thriller enthusiasts is almost here, which follows the story penned down by author Frederick Forsyth in The Day of the Jackal, his acclaimed 1971 novel. The series has been named the same and stars Eddie Redmayne in the titular role of The Jackal.

The Day of the Jackal is the first TV series adapted from Forsyth's novel and provides a deep dive into assassination, espionage, and the moral complexities behind political killings. The show will also highlight the consequences of taking on dangerous jobs, which require sacrifices and often lead to personal challenges.

While Redmayne has secured the main lead in The Day of the Jackal, he is accompanied by The Marvel star Lashana Lynch and other cast members, including Úrsula Corberó, Ben Hall, Eleanor Matsuura, Sule Remi, and more. The director's chair was helmed by Brian Kirk, and Ronan Bennet wrote the scripts.

Breaking down the trailer and story of The Day of the Jackal

The trailer opens with an extensive search for "the Jackal" all over Europe, an exceptional assassin who shocked the entire nation through his skills. The European police are seen contacting their international partners to help find Eddie Redmayne's The Jackal.

Before The Day of the Jackal 2024 TV series, Forsyth's novel was also adapted into a film that starred Bruce Willis in the leading role. However, there are notable differences between the film and the new TV series. While the film is set in France, the series takes place in England and Europe and has a modern and contemporary political background.

However, the core theme and plot of the story remain the same, with the assassin set to eliminate his new and important target. At the same time, Lashana Lynch's British intelligence officer Bianca is thrust into tracking down the hunter. Viewers can expect an engaging cat-and-mouse chase between the two forces.

According to the synopsis shared by Peacock:

"The 10-episode series follows an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, known as the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee."

The description continues:

"But following his latest kill, he may have met his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake."

While the series is adapted from the novel, it offers a fresh take on the classic story. This allowed the makers to add their unique touch to the story, making it even more engaging for viewers who have already watched the film and read the novel.
